Tallahassee Community College Nursing Program

U.S.A. Florida

Hello,

Just wondering if there is anyone else looking at The ADN program at Tallahassee Community College. I have just talked to admissions and they only admit 40 students every Spring and Fall. I am taking the HESI A2, in May and applying for the school in Sept. to try and start the program in the Spring. Just wondering if anyone knows any info. on the program? Thank you!

Have you taken the HESI A2 since this posting? If so, please share what the math portion covered, the complications you experienced taking the test and any helpful suggestions for someone like me scheduled to take it in 1 week.

P.S. I heard pretty much the same thing about the number of students accepted. It is weighted by the average highest from core course grades and HESI test GPA. Tie breakers are those that have taken microbiology and humanties. Thanks.

I'm in Havana! How did you do? Are you in the program now?

Hello Girldotson,

I just posted yesterday and no, I haven't taken the HESI even yet. This is what my thread here was about. I am in search of feedback on what the math portion entails. Is there lots of word problems? Conversions, Ratios, stuff like that and all other guidance to make the grade is appreciated. Also the writer here named Noel eluded to using a calculator and yet I was under the impression one wasn't available to us at Tallahassee Community College when taking the HESI.

Thanks,

Lisa

Hey Lisa,

I was asking Noel if she went with TCC:). And, as far as the calculator goes, I am so jealous! WE can't use one at Keiser.:uhoh3:

It is good you are in a nursing program at Keiser. I gather it is a bit more expensive and requires the Wonderful and TES test not HESI. At least this is what they told my husband when he inquired for me. The verdict isn't out if the calculator is a current allowable tool. I haven't had anyone on this site yet respond to confirm as of most recent took the HESI at Tallahassee Community College and it was permitted. It would be nice to know soon. I have been taking every math practice test out there and solving by hand. :smackingf

I took the HESI at TCC in February, there is a basic calculator that is on the computer to use. You click on a link in the test and a calculator pops up. It was really helpful because I had prepared to do everything by hand. There were a lot of conversions like gallons to liters so you had to memorize the formulas. I had memorized the formula for Celsius to Fahrenheit but then didn't get a question where I had to do that. There were also fill in the blank questions, it wasn't all multiple choice. And there were word problems that were a little tricky I really had to read through them carefully to not miss things. I think the HESI study guide was helpful for the math section. I took over an hour to do the math section and then was worried because I had less than 3 hours to do the last three sections but the other sections didnt take me as long.

Thanks for responding. I am so worried about this test. Math is my weakest of subjects. I have studied the conversions chart from the HESI practice book I bought and completed all the practice tests. Is the conversion questions staright forward e.g. How many milliliters are in a liter? I hate word problems. Do you remember any specifics there? Finally, any pointers on math and also the reading portion where you identify the main point and such is greatly appreciated.

I remember one of the word problems was something like Mrs. Jones has 3 children and she makes them each 3 peanut butter sandwiches a week. There are 40 school weeks in a year, how many peanut butter sandwiches does she make in a year. Not too hard you just had to read everything. And the conversions were not just milliliters to liters but there were also cups to pints to quarts to gallons and then also that system(english system?) to metric. I don't really remember a lot of the other sections I was so focused on the math. I've always been pretty good with reading comprehension and such.

You have really been so helpful and I do appreciare it. I am pretty good in all other areas as well. I have a severe case of math anxiety when taking tests, which at times causing me to go blank. I think I read somewhere else that you were accepted into the nursing? What was your HESi scores? I see many people rettok the test days after the first. Is this by walk-in and paying again the fee?

I've applied but I don't think you find out until sometime in June if you are in for the fall. I got a 96.96 overall on the HESI. I'm really hoping I'll get in, I've heard that there are over 300 people that applied though. When are you trying to get in?

If I take the test this Monday, which is the deadline to apply for Fall 2011. I have two humanties, one math and one science class yet to take to get my AA, so I will keep plugging in my classes until in hopes I am accepted one way or another and at last for Spring 2012. I am taking 3 summer courses and applied for microbiology in August with the remaining requirements to complete my degree. Either way is good for me, I will have my degree or I will be accepted and have to complete my classes somewhere in between it all or at the end of the prgram.
