Taking the TEAS for the third time

Published

Hi everyone!

I just made an account on allnurses.com because I think it is a great platform for nursing students to share information. I took the TEAS exam twice and didn't make it through and I registered for my third time, I'm taking it on 9/30. I'm very nervous because it is a make it or break it time for me and I don't want to drop a year to get into nursing school. I'm trying my best to make it through this time and I have the official ATI manual and the Mometrix Secrets book which I used for both my attempts. After going through the articles published on this website, I ordered the McGraw-Hill book with 5 Practice test and I'm going to test myself on it.

If anyone has any tips on how to make it through the reading and science section please share the tips and tricks. I'm very nervous and I don't know what it going to happen ? I've also been feeling very demotivated lately. I took the practice tests on the ATI website and I'm going to retake those today. Please help! ? ?

@Roadtobsn That's great! Congratulations on your score! what was the minimum requirement for your school? I bet your score is more than enough to get you through! I'm check the videos but I'm afraid it'll take too long; I only have 3 days until my scheduled test day. Also, how much did you score on math?

The minimum requirement for my school is a 65% overall score and a minimum of a 65% in the reading and math .. i got a 72.3% on reading which was my lowest score and an 87.7 in math, 80.9 on science.. and an 83.3 on english. I didn’t really study the reading section, and the timer was going really fast. 3 days is tough, the anatomy quick review book that i got is 300 pages long and in the reviews people said they were reading it in one day and got a good score on the science. I would suggest to go over the sections of anatomy that you feel are the hardest. And after that review whats left as much as you can .

Also I only studied for 2 weeks and the last 2 days i tried to review the english portion which was very hard.. especially being a full time online student aswell. Everything is possible! I believe that you can pass it with just three days !

@Roadtobsn thank you for the information and the motivation, I just hope I make it through with just enough to get into my program!

you are welcome! if you have any other questions about the test you can ask me ?

I know I shouldn't say this, but....I would recommend using PSI or another institution that proctors the TEAS test instead of where you took your test the first few times. I say this because I had a terrible experience with taking the TEAS through the university of Phoenix (the test questions didn't really fit the passages on reading section). I got an 85% the first time, with a 75% in reading, which was too low to get into the program I wanted. I retook it at the same place and scored even worse the second time (65%). So, I decided to try going to a different company all together (PSI), and I got a 94% on reading and a 93% on the overall score, without doing anything differently than I had for the other two attempts. I don't know what your options are where you live, but I hope my experience is helpful and you have other options for ways to take the TEAS like I did. Good luck!

@Nina85 Why do I feel, I can relate to this???? I couldn't take the teas again because the universities I was applying to would only accept the first three attempts on the teas and I was already through the first three attempts but the uni I'm going to now (after changing my major) don't have a limit to taking teas. I took the test twice at the university of phoenix and got around 65% on both attempts and I studied so hard for it!

I think Ill take it with psi next time but thank you so much, this is so relatable!

You're not alone! I'm sorry to hear that your experience damaged your chances at the school you wanted, but I hope that you don't give up and get the high score that you worked hard for and that your story ends well!!

@nina85 thank you so much!! wishing you all the luck!!

Hey! I had a question. Does the TEAS at PSI has different process for registering? Or is it the same as you register for the TEAS? Also, is there any difference in the fee that they charge for the tests?

Hi, all of that information is on the ATI website when you select to book it thought PSI. I believe you pay first, and then it tells you that PSI will contact you with an email telling you your confirmation number that you can use to register for a day and time on the PSI website. As far as cost goes, for me, PSI was a tiny bit more expensive, but there was no fee for parking unlike the ATI locations near me, so PSI ended up being less expensive. The only real challenge I found was that PSI takes about 3-5 business days to populate your results to ATI's website. Just be aware of that delay if you are taking the test at the very last minute before applications are due.

Oh, I see! Is it written or on a computer?

Where I took my test, they only do them on computers. I suppose you may have to call the PSI facility nearest you and ask them if they use computers.
