Taking RN NCLEX soon. Need advice.

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I am a LPN currently and graduated with my Associate RN in December 2010. I took RN boards in April and failed with 265 questions. I got my results and all areas were "close to the passing standard" or "above the passing standard". I didn't get any "below the passing standard." I am taking RN boards again at the end of September for the 2nd time. Any suggestions to make sure I pass on my 2nd attempt? I have been putting off boards because I am scared to take them after I failed. But I decided to schedule them and hope for the best! Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated! :):D

Specializes in SICU.

Since you almost passed in all area's,

I would recommend practicing answering the questions.

Get a good book with tons of questions and rationale.

Good Luck!!!!!

get kaplan! and mix it with saunders for content!!!

go to kaplans website and sign up for their free programs!!!!

kaplan kaplan kaplan and saunders! kaplan makes you apply the knowledge and content and saunders builds your content, mix them togetheer you get the NCLEX

Thank you! :) I think i about passed it on my first attempt, I just need to not freak out if it doesn't shut off at 75 questions and stay positive! That's what my problem was I think the first time I took it. I will study study study and hope for the best !

Do a lot of practice questions and know your endocrine system and infection control. I also failed my first exam with 265 and 2 weeks ago passed my 2nd, so it's doable. Good luck, study and practice questions everyday at least 2-4 hours.

I just took my test today and it shut off at 75. I went home and got a good pop up. English is my second language. Back to your question, I have witnessed so many students mentioning about taking as many questions as you can, which makes sense but on the other side it doesn't. The reason being; there is no way you are going to answer those questions without knowing the content. first and foremost, go back into the content and make sure you understand the whole system. Whereby if the Nclex lady questions you in anyway she wants, you will be able to think through the question and know what she is looking for. Now, don't take me wrong but after knowing your content, then start practising questions and read their rationales. That worked for me and if the PVT works, I guess I passed. Will let you know when i get my official results.

i would agree with you 100%... if you don'y mind me asking what books or review course did you take?

I didn't take any review course because I didn't have money to pay for it. I bought three different text books and studied my bu.. off. Saunders 5th edition is a very good book with content, make sure you pay so much attention to the pyramids most especially the ones in red (good tip and big gun). Lacharity is a must have (did the first 18 chapters), Exam cram, and Kaplan strategies ( just studied the first eight chapters on how to answer questions and practised the questions on the cd). As I said earlier, I am an ESL student, so I used Nclex made incredibly easy and it made me understand good stuff which also helped me a lot on the test.
