Taking the plunge

Specialties Med-Surg

So I took the plunge and gave my notice. I have been in LTC/SNF nursing for the last eleven years. I had basically reached the last level in advancement before DON and Regional. It was a huge decision for me because I am currently making GOOD money (I've earned it). I was offered a part time job at a local hospital on the med-surg floor and I am super excited and utterly scared at the same time.

I chose this decision because I really want to get back to bedside nursing and eventually become a nurse practitioner.

Does anybody have some words of wisdom for me?? I am going to feel like a brand new grad all over again. I will be out of my comfort zone for sure but I cant wait for the challenge...

Thanks for the comment RAINRN.....hoping that I made the right choice! What do you find to be the most challenging aspect of changing from LTC to hospital?

I have not really gotten an orientation today was my third day and I was on my own, my boss was there but she had to work the floor to due to call ins which is seeming to be a pattern. I think it is more disorganized than what I am used to but I think that is due to staffing. At least in my old job they would orientate the nurses at least a good week before cutting them loose at all of course there is always nurses there for help. The most challenging thing I have right now is the lack of orientation. It is just wayyyyyy different. I do like the different skills I get to use though. Sorry so winded I am very frustrated.

I recently went back to the hospital Med-Surg unit after 3 years at a LTC facility. I love my work at the hospital. I getting a good orientation and the co-workers seem nice. I am enjoying the challenge greatly. Good luck and I hope that things work out as well for you as they have for me.

I cant wait to get back at the bedside. I have been doing management for the last 3 years in LTC/ Sub-Acute Rehab. I miss doing what I went to school for! I recently got my BSN so I think that helped me get into the hospital. So excited to start my new job! Nervous big time though!
