Hello guys (and gals who occasionally look in hereJ),
Well, I finally took the leap; I made the decision to pursue nursing. I already have a bachelor and will start my prerequisites for nursing school on June 2nd. For the first summer session, I will be taking A&P I, human growth and development, and speech. My A&P class is 8 weeks long, and I really have no idea as to what to expect from it, however the speech and development classes are only 4 weeks long. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I live in Houston and will be taking these classes at a community college.
If there is anyone who would like to chime in with advices, be it good or bad, I would love to hear it. I will keep you guys/gals updated as to how it all goes.

good choice, the world of nursing needs more males
work hard, study, learn as much as possible every day, don't be scared to try anything(the worst that can happen is that you mess up), ask questions, be humble(because nurses know more than you, no matter how bad you disagree) and have fun! that's my advice
good luck

Macizu,
I made the leap three years ago and just finished the BSN portion this month (May). It's a decision i only wish i'd made sooner in life (let's just
say i'm a little older).
Your A&P will be a fundamental skill throughout your nursing classes, so
learn it well the first time. Took my classes at a community college too and
feel i got a great education there.
Don't get discouraged. Keep your goal in mind, and best of luck to you. You'll be rewarded immensely when you get into your clinical courses.

Hey, congratulations on choosing to go into Nursing.
I'm sure that you will find that this forum specifically and the whole website in general is filled with intelligent, strong individuals who are genuinely passionate about Nursing. I am a student too so I can understand your feelings of nervousness. I would suggest that you start off by realizing that this is going to be a huge commitment and really devote time to your studies because nursing schools are highly competitive, good grades and comprehension is key. I'm sure that by now you know how you learn best but may I suggest that you study the material frequently right from the start by breaking it down into small but manageable chucks so that it doesn't overwhelm you and form study groups with other students. Ask a lot of questions, take good notes and feel free to come on here to talk with your fellow students and nurses for support. Good luck and I hope to see you on here!
