Hi everyone, I’m a new graduate nurse who recently accepted a job offer and have recently completed a pre employment drug screen. The morning of the drug screen I wasn’t feeling well so I took 400mg of ibuprofen. I’ve read on google that ibuprofen can cause a false positive (which I didn’t know until after I took the test). I don’t do drugs or take any prescription medications and have been feeling very worried. Does anybody have any insight or experience with this to help me stop worrying so much? Any feedback is appreciated!

I just took a UA and have been taking Advil PM and I passed my test. You’ll be fine. If it did come back positive they can further test to see if it’s ibuprofen or really an “illegal drug” you’ll be fine!

Honestly, I’d lay off the University of Google School of Pharmacy. Advil PM is a perfectly benign OTC med when being used and dosed properly. The freaking out about ‘false positives’ come from either sources that are way over dosing it and/or from the scare tactics that are promulgated by some of these so-called monitoring programs. I say so-called because all you have to do is peruse the threads here to see what money sucking, career destroying vultures most of them are.
Having said that, the PM component (diphenhydramine) is usually not allowed for those imprisoned in the programs and Like anything, can be an addictive substance I suppose for those so inclined.
