Taking the HESI at the end of the month and just started studying!

Hi all!

I'll be taking the HESI A2 test at the end of this month and have purchased the HESI A2 study guide from Elsevier (which doesn't seem to cover much) along with a Barron's & McGraw Hill's Nursing School Entrance Exam Study Guides. I'm studying anatomy & physiology from a Cliff's Notes review book (since I heard the Anatomy section was very detailed). I'm feeling really nervous about the test and I'm not sure if I'm studying the right material or am being prepared enough. What should I do to guarantee a high score?

How much detail do I really need to know? Do I have to memorize all the bones in the skeletal system, for example?

The school I am trying to get into supplied me with their HESI study guide via email. I printed off the 63 pages but its just Math, Reading and Grammer. She said thats all thats covered. Geez now reading your post I hope she was right. Maybe try calling your school and double check? Either way best of luck to you on your upcoming test.

hi i took it today for the 2nd time. i can't really give you any feedback on the science sections because my school only requires english and math. the english was much harder this time compared to last year and make sure you know all the conversions for math (pound,kilogram, quart, pint, liter, etc). i felt that the 3rd edition study guide does a good job of reviewing. my only complaint is that there is not enough math word problems in the study guide that are similar to the one's on the test. you have enough time!!! study hard!

I took this test on April 23, I did pretty well- overall average was a 90% (lowest was on a section was an 80%, highest was a 100%). The school I was taking it for tested me on grammar, vocabulary, math, reading, A & P, Chemistry and basic knowledge. The A&P was fairly general but the math never seemed to end with fractions. I found the chemistry to be very easy for me ( i was currently in Chem II, when I took the exam).

I did purchase the study guide and it really did help. Good luck!

My school didn't require A&P, just vocab, grammar, math and reading. I used the Elsevier book but also used some online tests (www.test-guide.com/free-hesi-a2-practice-tests.html) and a study guide (www.scribd.com/doc/27347958/Hesi-Entrance-Examination). Hope these help...

I just took the Hesi today. I only found out I was taking the test 1 week ago so that's all I had to study. Overall I got a 90%. I purchased the McGraw-Hills Nursing School Entrance Exam book. My school only required Math, Reading Comprehension, Grammar & Vocabulary. The McGraw-Hills book went over a lot more math than what was on the actual exam.

On the test there was a calculator built into the Hesi software. There was also a lot of basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), decimals, fractions, ratios/proportions w/ and w/o percents (3:4::x:10), basic algebra and probably about 5 questions on conversions (metric to US). Also there were quite a few non multiple choice answers in the math section. The McGraw book covers more geometry and I didn't have ANY on the actual Hesi.

A lot of the English part also had medical terms included (duh). The book also focused a lot on sentence structure and different clauses/phrases (adverbial, adjectival, etc.) and my test didn't ask any questions about that.

Overall the book was almost too thorough. I feel like I wasted a lot of time studying and stressing about certain things that were no where on the test.
