I pray you passed? I took the ANCC last week for the FNP and PASSED. Whew!!! My brains had become mash-potatoes, study, study, study, questions, questions, questions. If I never see school again...it wouldn't be too soon!

I just graduated this month. I am not going to start studying until after the holidays. Would you care to pass on any study tips? I attended the Fitzgerald Review Course but I would like some "been there, done that" advice in regards to a study schedule. How much time every day did you study and for how many days/weeks did you review before you took the test? Also, how long after graduation was your test? Did it take awhile for ANCC to give you a test date?

It's a very good idea to wait until after the holidays to take your exam. I waited about 8 weeks to hear back from the ANCC in terms of a test date. I studied for about 7 weeks, every day anywhere from 2-5 hours per day. I cut back my hours at work and just worked part time . It paid off because I passed. I would have to say that the test wasn't that similar as Fitzgerald's materials like I had heard. It was harder than I thought it would be. I basically reviewed all of my class notes, then read over Fitzgerald's book, the Leik book and the Zerwek book and then answered questions. I also had a study partner that I studied with, which was very helpful too. The worst time is the week before the exam. Try not to get all worked up if at all possible. Just study, relax and let us know how it goes!!

Well, I graduated in May of this year and didn't start stuying until the end of June due to exhaustion. I worked pat-time and went to school full-time, so I was exhaused afterwards. Anyways; I did not attend the Fitzgerald review but I did order the same book from Amazon.com. I used that book plus I ordered a book that really really helpe me called " Family Nurse Practitoner Certification, Intensive Review, Fast Facts & Practice Questions By: Maria T. Codina Leik (2008). The book made a world of difference, it contained information that really helped with test-taking skills and how to break down the questions, to pick the correct answer. It also had specific material needed for the exam both ANCC and AANP. I went through both books but found Leik's book to be more factual and to the point, it even had case study examples. It was just overall well worth the $. I bought it too off Amazon.com (it's blue and yellow with a red strip going accros the front. As far as study time, when I did start I studied at-least 3 days a week for approximately 4-6 hrs, for 5-6 months. I hadn't took Fitzgerld review course though, so you may be more ready? Again, I hybernated like a bear. The program was a beat down, yet I came out with honors, not because of smartness. I just studied soooooo hard! In essence; if you feel you are ready... take it, some students took it right away others waited.

In addition: just as an FYI, I bought another book which was too intense as far as material but it had a practice question CD inside. The book is "Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner Cert. Examination (review questions and strategies) by: Jill Winland Brown and Lynne M. Dunphy (2009). I only used the CD, which had over a thousand questions on it system by system. I practiced alot of questions off the CD and it gave me my scores afterwards in %. It was a great resource along with Leik. Good Luck! It souds as though you are on the right path. I would suggest getting Leik though. The book seems to be popular especially on this web site. The results are printed out right at the web-site (pass/fail).
