Tags! New ADON here

Published

Good afternoon, everyone!

So I'm a new ADON at a SNF here in Florida. My building is a 120 bed facility. My question to you is, what are the different tags a facility can get when state comes in the building? I know there is many but what does each letter mean, for example: IJ tag. Can anyone tell me where to find this information on the web. Yes, I can talk with my DON or corporate nurse but I rather have maybe a printable form so I can review it which can go along with the information they may give me. Yes, I know an IJ is a horrible tag. Thanks.

I've retired, but if I remember IJ means Immediate Jeopardy and you're right - it is a horrible tag!

You can google "CMS survey tags". Lots of interesting sites listed. I think it's been asked here before, but your best bet may be to get your own copy of the rules & regs. Your Admin or DON may have a copy in the office for you to check out.

I am guessing that your facility is in the 'window period' in which they can be surveyed at any time. I think you may have already read your last survey report??? If you've some deficiencies, your best action may be to see that your facility has complied with the Plan of Correction that it submitted after the survey. And that it is still COMPLIANT. (Often things slip and go back to the old bad ways!)

Hope that info helps.

IJ does mean immediate jeopardy. Your facility can be closed to admissions if you get an IJ. A G tag means there is actual harm to a resident or group of residents...not something you want to get.

Go to your state DPH website and the CMS website to see all the different tags you could get.

Reach out to your corporate nurse, mine actually wrote out a grid for me to understand it
