Nursing is nothing if not an intense occupation. Sometimes we dream about it.

I just woke up horrified to discover that I had five out of seven patients that I never got a chance to look at or assess for the entire shift! :uhoh3:

So glad THAT's never happened in real life, but it's 0530 and there's no way I'm gonna be able to sleep.

Funny, I have that same dream all the time... That it's end of shift and oops, I didnt even see most of my patients. And I frequently have dreams now where my patients crash and nobody can find the code cart.... scary...

Saturday night I dreamed I had a patient named Tom Brady. No, not kidding. I helped him to the bathroom and he coded on me. I woke up asking my hubby who the heck is this guy... well at least I'm done with the nightmares about the drunk pulling his chest tube out.

I've had a couple of strange ones lately. I'm a CNA/Nursing Student and I think the stress is getting to me.

The first dream I dreamed that my clinical director decided that all rooms had to have at least 3 beds in them, but if you could fit more bed more than 4 beds were better. So all of our single and double rooms had extra beds shoved in everyother way, so you had to squeeze between, over them to get to all of the patients in the room. The director also decided that they really didn't need to add much extra staff with all the patients. She had a couple of extra nurses come in and one lone CNA (me) for the night shift. I ran my butt off with 40 patient's call lights going off and setting up beds to get admits. By the end of the dream I was sitting at the nursing station with nurses telling me things they needed done and call lights going off in tears sobbing, "I can't do this anymore! I need help or I'm going home!"

Another dream I was asked to take out a foley out of a patient. First I couldn't find a 10cc syringe so I gave in and empied a pre-filled saline flush syringe and used that instead. I pulled 40cc out of the balloon and there was still more in there when I went to get the patients nurse to ask exactly how much was in the balloon. The nurse proceeded to yell at me because there was only supposed to be 10cc. It was an odd dream.
