Swedish Residency Jan 2014

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Hi,

I just applied for the Swedish Jan 2014 residency. Wondering if folks here also applied and whether you have heard back, or if you know the timeline for that.

I tried emailing the Swedish Residency email several times in the past few months to find out about the Meet/Greet but never heard back. Did anyone manage to attend? Or is this a secretive gathering for some selected few?

Please share your experiences and journeys!!

I received a call today to be scheduled for an in person interview on 12/5. Anyone else have news?

Hey PalmRN,

How was the phone interview? Was it casual? What type of questions were you asked? What unit are you doing the in-person interview for?

ALL THE BEST! :)

At the the phone interview questions were very straight forward: Do you commit to working 12 hr shifts, Do you commit to various shifts, Do you understand you cannot take any time off during the residency etc Then my recruiter went into my past work experience, what my responsibilities were, past leadership roles, what were my units of choice and why.

Not bad at all!

I'm interviewing for ICU and getting nervous. I was surprised how fast I was scheduled for the interview (phone interview Thursday & call back on Monday)

I had my phone interview a few weeks ago and got scheduled to interview on 12/5 also for Nephrology. My interview was also a Thursday and callback was less than 3 working days. Any advice on behavioral style interview questions they might ask?

jnkwan, have you been scheduled for an interview and, if so, what units did you apply for? Lots of prayers coming for everybody!

Hello All,

They scheduled my phone interview fairly late in November on the 20th.

Those with phone interviews, care to share your top 2 unit choices?

I want to go with women's health and still deciding between gyn surgical, L&D and postpartum.

Good luck to everyone!

Good luck on your interview tomorrow!

Whaleluver33 and PalmRN,

Good luck on your in person interviews! I just had my phone interview today (Nov. 21) and you were right, the questions were very straightforward, the nurse recruiter was basically reading from a piece of paper. The questions I received that was different from yours was:

- What is the number one quality you believe a RN needs in the residency program?

- Why did you choose to work at Swedish?

- Why are you leaving your current job position?

- When you were a nursing student, what was your favorite unit and why?

The nurse recruiter also said it is a full time all night shift, and asked if you will be okay with that. she said the salary will be about $27 per hour.

My top 2 units were ICU and she confirmed with me there are limited spots in the ICU so I told her I am open for any other units that are available as well. (make sure to let the nurse recruiter know you are open to anything because even after orientation you may be hired somewhere else if your orienting unit is not hiring- as told by the nurse recruiter). '

PalmRN, what time is your interview on Friday? I'm curious as if I do get an interview, I'm wondering what time should I anticipate to fly in - I'm from out of town.

prayers to you all too! :)

Sounds pretty much the same as mine! I had forgotten about the other questions due to my nerves!

My interview is 12/5 at 8am. I'm flying in from out of town as well so I'll probably fly in the evening before and stay the night.

I was asked if I'd be willing to work various shifts, asked if I understood that if there is no available position in my precepting unit that I would be placed in another unit and that position could be part time or full time. I'm hoping to find out the chances of the part time vs full time employment.

Sounds like it went well for you! I hope and pray you hear back good news! If you fly in for interviews and stay overnight, I suggest finding a hotel really close to the airport so you can take the central link light rail downtown then take the metro bus to first hill (Jefferson & broadway) or cherry hill if you are interviewing downtown. Some good smart phone apps for the buses are called One bus away and another that I prefer is saving the community transit mobile website to your smartphone homepage Community Transit . Either way make sure when going to the interview to give yourself plenty of time because seattle traffic is horrible!

Hi there!

I had my interview this past Thursday, Nov. 21 and still have not heard back regarding an in person interview. Does anyone know if the nurse recruiter lets you know if you did not get an in person interview? And does anyone know when they stop scheduling for in person interviews?

thanks!

Hello jnkwan! I know Swedish is still finishing up with phone interviews. I believe they don't let you know if you don't get an in person interview. It took almost 3 1/2 weeks for them to call me back for the panel interview, so don't lose hope! Enjoy your Thanksgiving :)

Thanks LiftFit! :) Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Do you know if there is a number I can call to follow up with the interview?

Also, when they schedule an interview, do you work with them to fit a time that works best for both parties or do they just set a specific date and you should be available?

thanks for all your help :)
