Ok so accepted the contract and starting 10/14/15.
I did alot of research before deciding to go to Seattle..and saw the apodments which seemed Ideal for my situation. I want privacy and my own bathroom =)
Plus Terrazza is a few blocks away...totally walkable. So I cant book the apodment until I get the offer...I get it; apply for the apodment and...they tell me yes there are a few apodments and they'll email me the info.
I get the email today and it says $875/month...ect ect.
then the following email within minutes. "Sorry that unit is gone".
So. I don't know what to do. I Reallyyy don't want to spend $1800/month. Seriously!

Swedish has a very good bill rate for L&D. You should easily afford that cost if your agency pay is competitive. I certainly empathize with not wanting to spend more than you have to! You can go the other direction and look for a houseshare on Craigslist but I think a nice place will cost $800 or more for a room.
Thanks Ned,
Yes I obviously want to bank as much $$$ as I can. Ill be farrr from home.
I was offered a differant apodment building by the apodment leaser; but after talking with another Seattle RN; she says "Don't go there..don't Walk there!! Its the hood"
So I will continue my search...

Oh, god, where is it? Nowhere they have apodments in Seattle is "the hood". That's ridiculous. I lived on Capitol Hill 2011-2014 and walked everywhere in Seattle, including to my job in a " sketchy" area. And don't forget, driving anywhere is always a bigger statistical risk than walking in a "bad neighborhood". I think you're not planning on driving, just want to put it in perspective.
Maybe that is why only $875.

Im from Seattle. Worked at Virginia Mason. In VIrginia now. Ok so there isn't a "hood" lol. You absolutely can find a room for that price . Craigslist is the way to go for sure. Seattle is costly, the city is nice. Trust me you can find a nice place :). Not your own place in that area but a room for sure! Good luck! I hope you love it!

I don't know if you're familiar with apodments, Ned--they're tiny and often have no kitchen, kind of like a college dorm except that everyone has their own bathroom. (There's a shared kitchen and other shared living areas.)
I had my own studio in a very expensive area for less than $800. I think when I left they were planning to up it to $900. Seattle rents aren't automatically as high as people think. $1800 shouldn't be necessary even for short-term housing. I wouldn't be able to afford that.
Apodments eh? I simply assumed that apartments were misspelled - consistently. Nope, never heard of them, but effectively I was right about the cost of a room as that is how you describe them. A room with house privileges.
I wouldn't expect $1,800 to be out of line for any West Coast city and higher for corporate housing. A standard rule of thumb is that if real estate is leased for less than a year, expect to pay a 30% premium. In every city, there are bargains, especially for permanent or long term residents. I don't think you could expect a traveler to land a $900 apartment without a huge amount of luck. An apodment, maybe.
Yup, agreed. Except that $1800 would be out of line for my standards... I'd get a houseshare first. Apodments provide more privacy than renting a room in a house/apartment, but the tradeoff is you're sharing with more people.

I'm in Seattle right now living on First Hill a few blocks away from Swedish. I love the area, but yes the rent is ridiculous for the space that you get. This is my second time in the city and the last time I was here I used roommates dot com and found a great living situation. knew I was going to be here longer this time so I signed a year lease on an apartment. Also may want to check hotpads dot com and radpads dot com. And of course there is Craigslist, but beware of the SPAM on there. I ran into A LOT of ads for apartments with unbelievably low rents and the poster only wanted you to contact them via text, then would just send a text back leading you to sign up for another website, big pain in the rear. If you need any other info PM me. Hope this helps.
Thanks everyone. Yes I am Dying for some privacy, or a shared room with perhaps another nurse, but I'm staying at an Airbnb in Greenwood. I hate the commute..it took me an hour and a half to get to work tonight...that won't happen again. I'll take the bus downtown then call an Uber to get up the hill. Yes the hills are incredibly hard in Seattle LOL..I had no clue. Id LOVE~ to be closer. But the woman I'm staying with is very nice and even tho we had some kind of "Infestation" of fleas which sent me to a walk in clinic for treatment..all in all its ok. Just not as clean as I'd like. So yes IF I could find something closer I'd still like to be closer.
We'll see..I take it day by day =)
