SW Boces Entrance Exam

Hi everyone!! I applied to Southern Westchester Boces and I am scheduled to take my entrance exam next Thursday. I am looking for anyone who has attended or has recently been accepted to the school. Or even anyone who knows anything about the test and scores needed in order to get accepted. I'm getting very nervous about the exam and any advice would be appreciated. I am curious to know how students are accepted - what scores are they looking for? Thank you!

Omg!!! I think we've spoken today.... Let me ask u this, first seat by the door? I also picked the brains of the other students that were in the hallway and they confirm that the program is INTENSE. I'm cool with that I just want to get in. I hope you get what you want as far as the evenings go. I want full time day. Like I stated before I feel ok w the math and vocabulary portion. However reading comprehension that's the tricky one. Also, how about the one page essay? Not bad at all. I will keep the two of you posted and please do the same. Goodluck to US!!!!:yeah:

Just a quick question... do you remember if they said that they look at the overall percentile or the percentile for each section?

Did they really say that the ones who did well will get a call before receiving their scores? I remember them saying that if they happen to receive scores BEFORE we do and we did well, they will call us for an interview. I'm pretty sure that everyone receives their scores in the mail, not just the "maybes" or ones who did "ok".

As I understood however remember comprehension was my issue, lol. We have to score above 50% on each subject and my test mate can correct me if I'm wrong, she also stated that if you get the 50% in 2 tests and like a 48% on another you may get called back. It also goes by you full application as well. So there's opportunity. I think. What do you think?

I received my scores in the mail today and did not yet receive a call. So I guess that means I won't be getting interviewed?

Yes everyone gets there scores but not everyone gets an interview. No they didn't say you get a call before but they did say over and over again don't call them. Let's see who follows directions....

abenitez422- let's get this straight you have your scores but no call. don't worry. it's only been a week for you. give them the full 2-3 weeks. the reason i say that is because i believe there is still one more exam date. how do you start interviewing before that group has gone... you get my drift. heads up, positive attitudes, we are getting in.... hey, care to share scores, maybe privetly, email-email...let me know

Abenitez42- wow u got your test scores fast- they probably just didn't have time yet to look at the scores and call...I mean they did say 2-3 weeks! How do you think you did? I know hey don't gve you the percentile but do you think your score reflects how you felt you did? And I could be wrong- I felt like one woman said if they happen to get your scores first they calll... But I could have sworn then the other woman said if you're in the 50th percentile they'll call you right away and the rest will receive their scores in the mail and MIGHT be called if they have open seats...but like nurseladyy said here are sstill 2 more test days. Best of luck keep us posted! If you get a call I'm gonna need to know ur scores so I know what to expect lol

nurseladyy- yes that was me by the door! The one who kept asking questions lol. I totally did not have time to finish math jut praying the ones I did were right... Reading was hard!! I did not even study that b/c I thought it would be super easy since Im an avid reader/writer. Same goes for language; I thought I was like expert speller but come on how would I know how to spel words like Asepsis if i've never seen it in my life and don't know what it means?? So frustrating

dianedc123- I was the one by the board up in the very front. Remember the guy next to you then an open seat then ME!!! We spoke.

I don't think that would be right to start calling now. I feel as though so everyone gets a fair chance the calls should wait till the last exam and scores are out. I wish there was someone on here from one of the first test dates that were given to see if they even got a call back as of yet.

Overall I made it into the 78th percentile. Reading ability was 54th percentile, math was 47th percentile and language ability was 89th percentile. I missed it by 3 POINTS. Perhaps I still have a chance.. so I guess I should just think positive. Do you think I should call and ask if I still have a chance for an interview if I only missed the 50th percentile by 3 points? I can't even explain to you how I feel right now. I don't even have a plan B.

Truthfully i think your fine. She said it in the room regarding scores like yours they still tend to call for an interview. She gave similar scores as an example, like math 47, reading 52, vocab 55, you may still get a call. I can imagine how your feeling. And we thought prepping for the test and the test was bad.... This has to be the worst part of all. My fingers are crossed as well as my toes for us...:bugeyes:
