Survived 1st Two Weeks!: Just wanted to share my experience :).

I started my PN program on March 11th. I was very nervous, and sooooo anxious while waiting for classes to start. I was afraid I wasn't going to do well or that this wasn't going to be anything like I'd hoped. If you are currently waiting to start your program, you know what I mean... :crying2:! The pressure of not knowing, and only hoping for the best was really wearing me down!

Today is March 25th, it's 6:12am in my neck of the woods, and I've been up since 5am studying. I have a test on fluids and electrolytes, and the acid-base balance of the body. I also have a dosage calc. quiz. I feel ready for them both :D! Right now I have a 96.7% in A&P and an 89.3% in Vocational Relations. I almost feel like I freaked out for nothing. This is totally my thing :nurse:! I've fallen into a pretty awesome study schedule that gives everything in my life it's own place. I've never been so happy! Everything is working out like I've hoped!!

Now I know that I'm just beginning, but I'm starting off on a good note. There are people in my class that have like 34% averages. I was pretty shocked by that! I feel challenged by the material, but not overwhelmed. I am enjoying what I'm learning, and so excited to learn what's next! I think if you can find a way to "fall in love" with your classes, you will retain the information well and it will really stick :redpinkhe. I've never been so grateful for this amazing body I have :yeah:. It works so hard (lol)!

I just thought I'd share something positive :). Many people made it seem like nursing school was going to be more treacherous than it really is. It's actually awesome! I feel fine! I love what I'm learning! So don't freak guys lol... Just enjoy the ride ;).

Not to rain on your parade or anything, but keep up your enthusiasm, confidence, and passion from here on out! You're gonna need it!

Let me share my experience so far.....

I start my 4th month in April. For me, school has been everything you mentioned, and then some. We are just finishing pharmacology, we're passing meds, and the instructors are doing everything they can to make sure that we know what we're doing.

While at the Rx cart, the instructor can, and will, ask any question about any drug that is on our patient's MAR. We need to have researched the Rx and have it all down BEFORE administering it. Brand name, generic name, classification, mode of action, side effects, nursing implications, effect on lab results. Yowzaaaa! Boatloads of nothing but straight out memorization.

Learn your formulas inside and out, and front to back. Make sure you can change g to mg to ug and back again. Know every single conversion factor on the face of the planet.

That's all I can think of right now. Gotta run and do my Rx research for tomorrow AM...

Wow! That all sounds very challenging, but still awesome!! :D I think the fact we have a test/quiz almost everyday, if not twice a day, is what's keeping me on my toes. I never let my guard down because I know there is always something. I also make "competitions" with other students (they just don't know about it lol). We have our grades posted by student ID number, so they are private, and there is only one person with a higher grade than mine and I want to surpass them haha. I have a 97.33% as of yesterday, so we'll see what happens ;). I like a challenge so, it works for me. Whatever works right?? lol

wowo...so exciting....wowo..wowow... hey..can your guys please tell me. what your guys study in your first week. I am not go to school yet but I have some book at home and I want to learn ahead before my school start... I am so and so scare....thank you.

Is there really such a thing as being "too excited" ;)?? That's what gets me through the day... Maintaining a child-like excitement for every lecture lol. I treat every chapter like a new holiday, and Monday I've decided will be Christmas!!! :D (Just kidding haha)

That's awesome!! Keep it up. Like you, I'm very competitive and want to stay near the top of my class. We don't get so see other's grades, unless they tell us.

We just had our final final today. So far all As!!!

Apparently my program is different from others. We began in mid January and just today started drug classifications and calculations. Let me tell you, it is overwhelming, she gave us a list of about 40 to start learning last week then added 25 anti-infectives today. But most of them I have heard of (but don't necessarily know the primary use) and I love drugs...lol not like that but I love to learn about them.

Keep up the positive attitude!!!

I go to the Lancaster County Career and Technology center in Lancaster, PA...
