Encourage someone no I will not. However will not discourage someone (as I don't like being discuraged from something I want to do). It has afforded me flexibility to work when and where I want. However I do let them know that weekends and holidays and many times swing shifts is part of the picture as are missed weddings, parties, funerals etc.....something that for some reason new grads I have worked with seem to be very surprised about and have left the profession because of it...shame they wasted good money!
