Survey: FNP Schedules

Published

Just wondering what different schedules FNPs have, more specifically those in outpatient clinics. I thought moving from floor RN to clinic FNP would be better, but at the end of my clinic days I can barely function to make dinner, etc.

Hi,

I work in an urgent care setting. We work from 8am to 8pm but if there are still patients in the clinic at 8pm it is often longer.

I don't even try to do anything after work. The number of patients vary. My busiest day is 50 patients in 12 hours. Usually it is around 35 to 40.

I work in nephrology and travel from dialysis unit to dialysis unit - I see anywhere from 40 to 70 pts per day at multiple locations. I usually leave the house at 0630 and return between 1700-1900. And yes, that's five days a week.

That is my current schedule but we have are one NP short at the moment.

I work in primary care, and I do 4 ten hour shifts. I don't usually stay late, but I spend a substantial amount of time doing charts at home.

I work 2.5 days per week. Last patient is seen at 4:30 and usually gone by 5 unless I am running really late. Takes me an hour at least to finish up all the afternoon charts (still paper charting). On the days that I work, my husband is usually home before me and thank goodness he gets dinner going for the family. When school starts back we will be in our old routine of cooking a huge meal on Sunday afternoon and using it for leftovers for the next few days....change up a veggie or two and you can have quite a few different meals from one!
