supplies for pre nursing & nursing

Published

I am starting my pre-reqs this coming fall at Everett Community (I'm super excited/nervous) and its been a long time since I've gone to school and I've obviously never been to nursing school before.... I'm just hoping to get recommendations from others on what supplies you got, what helped you the most, what you couldn't live without or what you wished you had had. Also a big one is would you recommend getting a separate laptop/tablet for school? I have a laptop at home, but it's of course the main family computer so my husband is on it most of the time, so would you think I should get one just for school? I'm sure these seem like silly questions but help from those who have already done it would be great. Thanks!

When you start actual nursing classes, they will let you know what you need, such as a stethoscope, scissors, etc. I wouldn't worry about it right now, just concentrate on making top scores on those pre-reqs. Good luck!

I would suggest getting your own laptop if you say your husband is on it most of the time.

My Macbook has made a huge difference and I'm on it CONSTANTLY, using it for research and studying. There's also a good flashcard site I use when I don't want to hand make them since there are so many.

You will probably need your own laptop if your husband is using the family one most of the time. My laptop is the family computer also, but they all know that Mom has priority, because I do spend substantial time on it writing papers, doing research, printing out powerpoints etc. As far as supplies, the first commenter was correct: your nursing school will let you know what you need, besides the obvious - binders, papers, pens etc. Even with those things though, they might have specific guidelines. I had one teacher who required two 2" white binders. Ha ha! Good luck!

I will agree with everyone else in stating that you need to get your own laptop. I did when I started because I was going to be on the road a lot and it would have been easier to complete homework while away. I didn't get anything fancy, think I spent 500.00 new from Wal-Mart. I would also suggest to organize everything on it for quicker reference. If you download anything interesting for future use, label it correctly and file it away so it is easier to find. You wouldn't imagine all of the websites I have saved over the years in nursing school.

The rest will probably be directed by the nursing office. They even gave us a complete list including a portable stapler. After the first few weeks you can add stuff that you might think will help.
