supplies needed for lpn school

Published

I am starting LPN school in a few weeks but no supply list has been given other than a book list. From your experience, what are safe bets as to supplies to get so I don't walk in without what I need.

Thanks!

I love school supplies, so maybe I went overboard. I read here on AN years ago that having nice school supplies will help motivate you to study, so I've always followed that advice and I've earned all A's for all my RN prereqs. I started LVN school and continued following that advice: 3.68 GPA so far in LVN school and I'll be done soon.

  • Rolling bag- supersized! Some girls use luggage with cute prints, some use suitcases. I wish I could have purchased the rolling sewing crafting cart thing, but I already had a rolling brief case with a bog open space inside, plus I used a swiss army backpack with a lap top case.
  • Mechanical pencils. I like size .7.
  • White polymer erasers
  • Quality highlighters
  • Good colorful pens
  • Black pens
  • Hole punch that fits in binder
  • Stapler
  • Lunch sack / bag / cooler
  • snap ware tupperware
  • Reusable water bottle that closes securely and can be placed inside of your book bag
  • Scrunchies, flower clips and bobby pins (we have to wear our hair up off of our necks)
  • Uniform approved sweaters or scrub tops - our school has strict rules on what you wear to keep warm
  • I bought Danskos, extra scrub uniforms and quality socks
  • I bought my own stethescope, already had a nursing watch, a clinical fanny pack

The above post covers pretty much everything, though I have a few more suggestions:

-blank flashcards

-planning journal for homework due dates

-clipboard that opens up to hold your paperwork for clinicals (when you get there)

Calendar book is nice to have to write down exam dates and other things

Highlighters

Pens

index cards especially for Pharmacology and med surg to write tx, signs and symptoms, etc.

You may find them in abundance, but it's always good to keep extra gloves and alcohol swabs with you.
