Hi, is anyone applied for the SUNY Downstate FNP FALL 2021 program?

It makes you wonder about their reason for extending the deadline. Could it be because they don't have enough seats filled due to lack of applicants or maybe not enough qualified applicants. I know the program is very competitive and im sure alot of people have been applying. Or are they?? Who knows LOL

At the time they did not know much of what would happen. Also, I never got a number of seats. Maybe someone else may know. 

I agree! Plus the more students they have, the more $$ they’ll make if they make the classes online. Or maybe do it as a hybrid program where students will rotate attending class in person and via online.

Yes I agree!! Plus they made the program a lot easier to apply to this year.. It went from 2 recommendations to 1. And the essay went from multiple essays to 1, 150 word paragraph LOL. Makes me think they’re accepting a lot more people

Hahaha! That 150 word essay shocked me! I literally had to condense my entire essay which was another challenge. Fingers crossed for all of us!

It may be both. I know that there are many people talking about the FNP specialty being oversaturated. It is possible that many people are not going for FNP and are going for the other specialties instead. Then I feel the pandemic may have also reduced applicants. Some people are willing to work during this time while you hear stories of many nurses quitting and changing profession.

I agree with you!  Alot of nurses I know are running from FNP to psych NP. Some nurses I worked with went per diem or just quit all together which means more nurses and advanced practice clinicians are needed.

I spoke to a woman who completed the program a few years ago. The biggest thing she said was to be on top of the work because graduate school is completely different. We are basically going to be teaching ourselves. That is what I have heard from graduate school in general. She did say the professors are helpful when you need the help though.
