Hello all! I am very interested in the SUNY Downstate accelerated nursing program. I have every Pre req completed except microbiology. I am planning on applying for the 2018 program and will be graduating in spring of 2018. I talked to my schools an advisor today and she said I am a competitive candidate but I'll be put on a waiting list because I'll have microbiology outstanding in that spring semester. The school told me we are allowed to have one science Pre req incomplete but I am worried! I currently have a 3.5 GPA. My plan was to take biology 1 during the summer, biology 2 in the fall, and micro in the spring. She advises me to take micro in the fall but I need bio 1 and 2 first. Do you think taking bio 1 and 2 both in one summer session is doable? I really want to be accepted for the 2018 program. Thanks!

When you say Bio 1 and 2 you mean A&P 1 and 2? If so, go for it. I am taking A&P1 this summer and I think it is doable. However, I know that SUNY's ABSN is a 15 months program with the summer start. So that means you cannot graduate in spring 2018, but rather summer 2018.
No I already took A and P 1 and 2! I meant General biology 1 and General biology 2. My college requires you take bio 1 and 2 BEFORE you can take microbiology. And I know it's a summer start. I meant graduate from college in spring 2018 to make the summer 2018 start! Thank you for replying :)
Why do you need Bio 1 and 2 for SUNY?? As far as I know all they require is A&Ps. Also, A&Ps are higher order courses so they should be enough for you to be eligible to register for micro. At least this is the case in all of the CUNY schools.
SUNY themselves do not require biology 1 and 2. My college (brooklyn college) REQUIRES you take biology 1 and 2 BEFORE you are allowed to take Microbiology, which is a pre req for SUNY. so basically the advisor at my school told me that they will waitlist me because i did not finish all pre reqs BEFORE spring 2018. that is why she is urging me to take Bio 1 and 2 ASAP so i can take Micro in fall 2017 instead of spring 2018. so basically i would like you opinion on whether it is doable to take BOTH biology 1 and biology 2 in one summer? i havent taken any biology courses. i received a B+ in AP1 and am currently getting 90s in AP2. have you ever taken bio 1 or 2 before? if yes, how do u think it would be to take bio 1 in 5 weeks time? thanks!
P.S: I go to CUNY Brooklyn College and they require bio 1 and 2.. i asked my advisor if there was a way around it and she said no because my bio department is stubborn. do you happen to know who i can contact to maybe get permission to take micro without bio 1 and 2?
Well, you HAVE taken 2 bio classes: A&P 1 and currently taking A&P 2. Trust me, these two courses are enough to get you in for micro. I go to Hunter and this is the way they do it here. At Lehman, for example, to take micro you need to have taken 2 100 bio courses. If it does not work out at your school, do an e-permit. E-permit, if approved, will allow you to take micro at any other CUNY school or non-CUNY school that will allow you to register for micro without any additional pre-reqs. I think making you to take 2 low bio courses after having taking two higher bio courses is, INMO, ludicrous. Please, investigate the matter, and do not waste time taking those two bio 1 and 2 courses.
Wow thank you!!!! My major still requires bio 1 and 2 but I can just take those after I'm done with micro! I'm gonna try this. Thanks!

Are you earning a degree from CUNY Brooklyn? If not, why not take micro at another community college? Cayuga offers it online, for example.

I don't think you can take any of the science prerequisites online. Double check with downstate. I'm interested in the absn program. I have a few science courses that I will be doing this fall.

Hello,
I am applying for SUNY Downstate for 2018 . However, I am confused are we taking the TEAS V OR TEAS VI? . I've bought the wrong book I bought TEAS VI... has anyone taken the test ? or any book that you can recommend to pass the test.
Thank you in advance
