SUNY Buffalo / UB Accepted ABSN May 2012

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi all!! Looking to connect with nursing students accepted to University of Buffalo's Accelerated BSN program starting this May 2012.

I am nervous, anxious and super excited to get started with my nursing degree. From what I have read, UB's ABSN program is intense and very reputable. I read that someone also said that much of the course work was focused on "methods and theory" which is quite interesting to me since I am very interested in the theory of care and health.

I hope to start the discussion and to get connected.

Also any UB grads out there, any info about the course work, clinicals, apartment search, or living in the Buffalo area is much welcomed!

Looking forward to speaking with all of you!

Hi Kathy,

Congratulations! I will be starting the program as well and am also anxious, nervous and excited.... possibly petrified really :-D

Where are you moving from? I moved to western New York to finish pre-requisite course work one year ago, from Brooklyn (Park Slope). The good news, it's super cheap here if coming from a larger city. I'm a bit north of UB's south campus though, so can't comment too much about that area.

I am currently at Niagara County Community College which has a reputable nursing program but am very excited about being in a university setting.

I also have a young son so am very nervous about juggling it all but have a wonderful babysitter who I live several blocks from. Hence, my location.... Is anyone else out there doing this with kid(s)?

Thanks for posting / starting this thread and am looking forward to meeting everyone soon!

Megan

Hi Meg! Thanks for responding to me, I haven't had much luck from Buffalo! Congrats to you too!

I'm from Long Island, hearing that Buffalo is cheap is great because I'm getting sick of the expensive NY prices.

I'm coming to the orientation this weekend, hoping to search for housing as well. Looking close to the south campus.

Just out of curiosity, are you planning on working while you are in the program? From what I've been reading about hte curriculum it doesn't seem like that's a possibility since it's pretty intense.

Hi Kathy,

From what I've heard, most of the people in the UB program aren't from the area. A lot of people from this area go to the nursing programs at the local community schools. They are very affordable but associate degree programs.

I'm guessing that you will be able to find housing easily enough. I have the first floor of a house and it's a 2 BR and I only pay $500. Although, I have a 25 minute drive to the south campus.

I definitely do NOT plan on working during the program. I have a 20 month old son who is more than enough!! I think working would be difficult with or without kids thrown into it. Feel free to PM me directly if you like at [email protected].

Looking forward to meeting you this Saturday!

Hello! Just wondering how the program went for all of you! I just finished one semester at Trocaire College- did well and really enjoyed it- but I am toying with the idea of applying for the 2014-15. I have a BA in Psychology and a masters in education. Also will have the luxury of not having to work during the program (which was not the case when I began Trocaire's program and was part of my decision at the time).

Thoughts and reactions about your experiences??

Thank you!!

Hi to all those who got accepted into UB's Nursing Program,

I just want to ask, what is your gpas? And did you have any experience such as work and volunteer work?

has anyone applied to the traditional program?
