Alright, I give - what's the BIG reason? Where is it located - I live in MO, but have never heard of it before. Need more info.. ;)

I know of this place too-outside of St Louis. They hire nurses that are suspended etc, very short staffed, been in the news with some problems. Staff and drugs....There are too many good places around town to hire on here. Delmar Gardens and Friendship Village have great reps and treat their staff great.

:nono: I guess you were right on. I see in the press today a resident is dead from staff abuse. Not a place to work unless there is a big change in staff. Maybe the state will step in, sorry for the residents living there.:o

Yes, bad things as I said. Stay away-stay very far away.

I live near this facility. They have severe labor problems, union walk-outs, pickets, short staffed nurses. They have also allowed CNAs to act as nurses!!!! This has all been well reported in the news. They are currently in a big hiring blitz-do not apply at this facility. It could cost you your license!!

Specializes in Med/Surg, Geri, Ortho, Telemetry, Psych.

I worked there! One time they hired this new D.O.N., and she called me into her office. She showed me the narcotics book where I signed out all my meds all day. She wanted to know why I wrote my name so "messy". She accused me of trying to make it look unintelligable. I marched out of that office and grabbed as many patient charts as i could carry and showed her in my nurses notes that sometimes my signature looks "messy" because I'm writing so fast. I told her that I only go in two speeds, fast or faster. She was something else. That place was terrible.

I have been an employee of Sunset Hills Health for 12 years and can only laugh at your accusations. This is a great facility with great employees. If your not among them you were more then likely terminated. Improve your skills, change your negative attitude and take care of your residents - then come back and apply. Every facility has it's issues and when there are, the Administrator and DON handle them fairly and professionally. I'm sorry your employment at Sunset Hills Health ended poorly, maybe in time your sour grapes will sweeten and you'll wish you'd given them another try. I'm sure you were given your chance to excel here but didn't take advantage of the opportunity provided you. To all nurses out there - be even more leery of posts like the one I'm responding to - talk to the nurses of any facility getting a bad review and you'll find out the truth. You don't have to believe what I say but I wanted the loyalty I have to Sunset Hills to be represented among the negativity.

I recently was called by one of the unit managers, who asked if I would reconsider coming to work there. I was already set to go to another facility, but Sunset Hills paid more and did not require me to sign a paper agreeing to pay for my drug test if I didn't stay three months. I was there for less than two weeks, including orientation, when I was "let go" by another unit manager because she didn't like the way I charted. This stunned me because most facilities I'd worked at where very willing to teach and train. "You may not know how to do this now, but you'll learn," was the general attitude. If I still wasn't charting as per her requirements after six months, then it would be reasonable to be fired, but fired after 11 days?!? It's not that I really wanted to work at this rundown dump, it's that I had another job at a good place as well as two other job offers. I agree with everyone else. Avoid this facility!

I just read on the jobsite "Beyond.Com" that they are advertising for CNA's (Certified Nursing Assistant's) who will perform EKS's, draw blood and assist with diagnostic tests & clinical procedures.... under the supervision of a Registered Nurse! WHAT IN THE HECK IS THIS??? CNA's do NOT perform those job functions. CNA's are NOT trained to do those! LPN's aren't even trained to do those job functions UNLESS they have their LPN-C license and then that only allows them to draw blood! IS THIS FACILITY FOR REAL????

What they are likely looking for is a Medical Assistant, this is a growing trend in this area. These people are trained to do all sorts of things, and it is not unusual for them to be employed as a CNA (although in IL legally you have to be an actual CNA as well for that title). Medical Assistants do not usually have any sort of certification though, and work under someone else who is licensed.
