The rain did prevent me from bird watching yesterday, so went and got my car emission tested instead.  Tried to be productive the rest of the day, did some house cleaning, tried to do some CEUs but was unable to take the exam and had to email  the company.  Had lunch with dad, exercised and watched most of Svengoolie

Today will start a crock pot chili recipe before church.  After church will do some grocery shopping.  Also need to pick up some household  supplies, the gay group is collecting them for a domestic violence shelter at their potluck later this  week.  Might ride my bike as long as the rain holds off

Rain should hold off until later tonight.  Will be a cooler day in the mid 70s

Cool and smoky here today with a fire about 25 miles north of us. We drove up the road yesterday to put a finger on the location. It's about 3500 acres.  We have our personal evacuation review.  I have my guitars packed. It won't come to that but I'm old and slow now, so I prep early.

Hello all!

tmb, what guitars do you have?  Hope the fire is controlled soon, and you don't have to evacuate.

Joe, sounds like a productive day!

No Stars, hang in there!  Agree with Tweety, say what needs to be said (otherwise, as you know, it ferments inside you).

We think the dog has kennel cough.  He started yesterday with some bouts of coughing, nonproductive.  He hasn't been in any kennel (other than his own, here at home) but from what we read, he could have picked it up anywhere.  We have a call out to our vet, hope to make an appt this week to get him seen and treated.  Other than the cough, he is himself (no other symptoms). Of course, differential diagnosis could be CHF or something else...  Hope it's kennel cough, given a choice, for that would be easier to treat.

I have a couple errands to do today.  Dh just added some support to the pepper and tomato plants (both are near 5 ft tall now!).  I'm thinking that perhaps next year I will, with judicious trimming, "encourage" them to be bushes rather than tall plants.  IF I grow them next year, will see.  The drip system continues to work very well, so at least they are getting enough water in this 100-degree heat.  If we go out in the heat, dh and I will look at each other and he will remark, "Yanno, it doesn't feel a degree over 104, does it???"

Have a good day!

Hi. I rode my bike to the diner for breaky, as per usual. It's still a little overcast/smoky. I am trying to get motivated to pack for one more short trip; this time to Mt. Rainier for a few days with ds for some hiking. We are going to stay in an airBNB this time, instead of camping. But I also need to run by sis's house, dh wanted to go to a movie, and this place is a mess! Dh spilled some pineapple juice in the kitchen, so I've been down on my hands and knees to clean up the last remnants, especially that stuff that went under the fridge. That stuff is sticky!

I see my high school class annual get together is coming up. I sure hope more people come. I hate it when it turns into "who died this year?" I much prefer stories about high school pranks, back in the day. I of course, was a nerd, but I always admired those who were more venturous.

Dianah, there are two basic types of tomatoes: indeterminate that just keep getting taller and taller, and determinate, that stop at a certain point. The determinate types are mainly plum tomatoes. But you can whack them off when they get too tall. I usually cut the tops out when they get to about 6 feet. Our pepper plants seldom get taller than 2 feet, but I think that is because of our cooler weather.

Gosh stars, you don't deserve to be talked to that way. But of course, you know that. I would wave a magic wand and rescue you if I could. I urge you to  leave and do your thing, as the counselor advised, if only for an hour or two. Cleaning your room, or going to the drug store doesn't count!

Chili sounds good. dh is trying some sort of marinated chicken recipe today, that is what the spilled pineapple juice was for. He meant to make it last night, but didn't start it until 7 pm, and it needed 2 hours to marinate. So we had baked potatoes with chili instead.

We had some thunder and LOTS of HEAVY, pouring-down rain. We've been watching the baseball game, but the Braves lost.

All through the last 40 minutes Nannie has mentioned "that room" several times; she wants to go to bed, but I said NOT until she eats some supper. She was so irritated that she'd have to wait, that I went up and stuck a chicken pot pie in the microwave for 7 minutes for her supper. It is about 5:30 PM, and I told her that as SOON as she finishes eating she can go to bed. (And she better STAY there!) When she goes to bed early, it seems she gets up within an hour, peeks out her door and says, "Do you want me to come out there now?" Repeat with me, a BIG, loud "NO!"

I told hubby he has to, HAS TO, get on the stick to see the guy at John Edwards to get a bunch of her investments to cover nursing home entry ASAP, like YESTERDAY!  I  have goose'd him to go to the doctor, and get this detox process started. There isn't any residential rehab near here, unfortunately; we will have to get financial assistance regardless, but it is going to be borrowed in HIS name, not mine!

-----------------later---------------

Yup, Nannie peeked out twice, and came out of her bedroom another time. Hubby told her to get back to bed....UNDER the covers.

We talked a lot about her, and him, and his dgt. At least he was reasonably sober. Later he said he only had 3 little bottles of vodka left. GREAT planning, huh? I told him I hope three small bottles would get him through the next 16 hours, when the ABC store opens. If he gets bad during the night, he needs to call the ambulance.

Well, unless something happens, I probably won't be back here until tomorrow. I'm tired of thinking and talking about all this BS.

@dianahI have a Fender Strat electric 6 string and Bass, both modern. I have a 1969 Gibson CW and a 1970 Guild and a 1978 Yairi Alvarez (my daily instrument) all acoustic.

I'm not terribly concerned about the fire,  yet.  They will put quite a bit of effort into keeping the fire away from the community and businesses. It's close though. Thanks for asking.

Thanks for the guitar list!  What kind of music do you (usually) play?  Are you in a band? Nice stash!  Stay safe!

I play whatever tickles my fancy in the moment. If I don't like the chord progression or tempo, I change it to make me happy.   Currently, I've enchanted my 7 year old grandson with a slow and bluesy acoustic version of Staying Alive by the BeeGees. His next favorite is probably Rocket Man (EJohn) or Mrs Robinson (Simon). The only "band" I've ever played and practiced with regularly was a praise team in a large charismatic church in the Midwest. That music still peppers my play as I no longer attend corporate worship services.

Music, even the rudimentary and sloppy execution that I engage in, helps to maintain sanity during the long dark Alaska winters.

Agree, no matter where one lives.
