Tweety glad it will be a quiet day for you

Ado glad there was no damage from the storm

Yesterday was pretty busy initially.  Met some people at the train station and we went downtown to the protest together.  We got there early so I decided to stop for coffee beforehand.  Which provided tricky as Chicago's Loop tends to have very few businesses open on weekends.  So I had to walk a good bit, and then walk a good bit to the protest site.  After an hour or so I got rather sore between all the walking and holding my sign, so went home after that

Didn't do much once I was home.  Stopped at the grocery store then relaxed and later took a hot bath to help ease the soreness in all my muscles.  Decided to skip Svengoolie and watch "Maria", the bio pic about opera singer Maria Callas.  Was pretty good, Angelina Jolie did a good job

Today going to try and head out early to do some bird watching before church as I didn't get a chance yesterday.  Have to get to church a little early as I'm the assisting minister.  After church will do the cooking for the week

A while back I had proposed a trip to a local zoo as an event for the over 50 group and posted it on the group's web site.  It seems to have attracted a lot of attention.  So I guess I'll have to find a date to do it, hopefully that won't proved tricky, will have to check my schedule

Will be cooler today, in the upper 40s

Supposed to get into the 80's today and be overcast. Someone forgot to check with Mother Nature, because the sun is shining brightly right now. Tomorrow the temp is supposed to drop by about 10 degrees and they are calling for rain. They said no danger of flooding here, since the ground is so dry it will suck up the precipitation and won't even think of over-flowing any banks.

Nannie went to bed at 9:10 PM last night; As of 11:30 AM she is still in bed, sleeping. BiL and SiL came over yesterday afternoon and the lawn was mowed, and half of the former 'flower beds' in front of the hedges out front were stripped of the weeds and they put down wood chips with some kind of color that is not 'natural'.  But I don't care what they do with the yard; I am not into gardening or the like. It is unpleasant enough trying to keep up with the indoor "weeds" 😏.

I am currently relaxing, propped up in bed, waiting for the meds to kick in. Had to put a heat wrap on my lower back, so I am waiting for that to ease the achey-twinges off.  My hair looked like I combed it with an egg-beater this morning. But it's not like anyone will see me or care.  Haven't got any itinerary. Nice to see my bedroom floor again. I have to try to at least keep UP with making sure to NOT  keep tossing down everything I bring back up here. Not sure if the iL's are going to come over to finish with the wood chips. (They got only half of the weed-beds covered yesterday.)

I did so many 'word-search' puzzles last night that I was practically cross-eyed by bedtime. Think I will switch to the puzzle book that has multiple kinds of puzzles in it, just for a change. Word-search keeps me occupied, but there is not a lot of challenge to it for me. My brain likes variety, and I have to do SOMETHING to try to keep away from getting irritated with Nannie.

All for now, I guess. I will have to get dressed and brace myself for Nannie's Morning Routine....

G'day

I went to hot yoga and made a run to two stores for groceries items.  Trader Joes and the indie organic store.  Otherwise might wash my car after lunch and watch some TV.

After church made what I thought would be a quick trip to pick up stuff for the Beef Wellington that Twin B wants to make. But ended up having to go to 2 grocery stores. It is cold (42) and I just want to get warm.

Don't want to shock anybody, but while Nannie is sleeping, I went upstairs to the kitchen and started COOKING! Sauteed onions, then mushrooms, then ham cubes, black olives and a little garlic powder; then mixed it with "Ancient Grains with Brown and Wild Rice" and added a little broth, then laid some provolone cheese on top. Will bake in the 350 degree oven for about 1/2 hr to 45 minutes. Writing it out, it occurs to me that it is kind of a not-very-enticing and somewhat weird combo....I had no recipe, I just had things I needed to use up before they expire. Cooking 'by ear" since I don't have a sense of smell. But like son-in-law used to say, "It will fill the (hunger) hole." Should have put some baby spinach in there too, but I can cook some on the side (ie wilt it) just before serving. I think Nannie will probably eat it. At least the food is not having to get pitched out because of getting moldy and gross, being refrigerated too long and giving up the ghost. So, we'll see.... or we'll taste....🙃....

Nannie is snoring up a storm! She made Momo bark a couple of times with the weird noises coming from her mouth: HONK-SQUEAK-WHISTLE-SNORT! 😴😳

I'm going to let Nannie sleep until , oh, say, 6 PM, so I'll put the casserole in the oven around 5:30 PM. And if it isn't (as Nannie used to say) "fit to eat", there's always peanut-butter sandwiches!

Sounds delicious!

The Beef Wellington was very, very good. The recipe used finely chopped mushrooms that were sautéed to remove the moisture instead of fois gras. And puff pastry.

With the remaining puff pastry we made a dessert with vanilla pudding and fruit (I had some frozen blueberries).

I also bought some ready-to-grill veggies: zucchini, yellow squash, asparagus, and onion. Tossed with olive oil and garlic salt, then grilled.

So I'm feeling fat, dumb, and happy at the moment. Finished reading The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah. Now back to Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín. Then I'll see what the book club chose for this month.
