sun health phoenix v TMC Tucson

Published

Hi all,

I am a registered nurse in the UK. I have 2 children, a girl of 7 and a boy of 5, my husband is a photographer but is going to train to be a plumber/plasterer from January.

I was just about to go out and post my signed contract for the Tucson Medical Center when I received a phone call from Sun Health in Phoenix!!! They have said they are very interested in me and would be offering me 3 - 4$ an hour more than the TMC. I'm in a dilemma now and don't know what to do:uhoh3:. The TMC are offering more relocation money so I suppose it all balances out in the end??

Has anyone got any experience of Sun Health? It all sounded good on the phone but it would wouldn't it!

Is the cost of living a lot higher in Phoenix?

Are the schools just as good as in Tucson?

I presume there may be more job opportunities for my husband as it is a big city?

Any advise would be gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance

Jools.

Well I filled out an application online for the ICU (keep in mind I am a new grad), and got a call the next morning at 8:30 AM! Sun Health runs two hospitals - Boswell and Dell Webb. This job is at Dell Webb. I have an interview on Monday so I'll let you know my impressions.

good luck on your interview. I will be working at Boswell :)

Hi anna, do you mind if I ask, did you discuss which area and hospital you would be working in, or was it decided for you? I'm not sure which area will be on my contract but I would like cardiology I guess i'l have to wait and see!! nice meeting you in London, it's nice to see someone near the end of it all when you're just begining!!:chuckle Lou

Hi Lou

I was told it would be Boswell and because they are expanding should be plenty of areas to work in. I think I will be gen surg to start but did ask if it would be possible at some stage to work in a few areas to gain different sorts of experience and was told probably after 12 months shouldn't be a problem as they have education nurses to help you plan what you want. Why don't you email Claudia and see if she has an idea on where you will be working?

Good luck on your journey I am just getting impatient in mine as it appears to have stalled :o email me anytime you want

Well, the interview went well and they offered me a job on the spot in the ICU. The pay is a bit more than the other Phx hospitals for a new grad, plus a 3K bonus :) I am going to wait till the end of the week before I accept though - I have a few apps in at other hospitals. Oh, this isn't Boswell - it;s Del E. Webb hospital which I believe is smaller than Boswell.

Rita, can't remember her title but she works for the hosptial group, told me when I met her last week that both hospitals are expanding to 400 beds each, a big expansion in my eyes :)

Hi all,

I decided to work at the VA Hospital in Phoenix instead in the MICU. The pay is 2 bucks an hour less, BUT, you get the federal government benefits including 26 DAYS PAID TIME OFF A YEAR! In addtion, they will orientate me for 6 months in ICU. I had to take that offer despite the lower pay. It is not nearly the commute for me either.

Good luck to you all at Sun health :wink2:
