Summer 2018- UT Health Science center pacesetter BSN program

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am preparing myself to apply for Summer 2018 pacesetter BSN program. We can use this forum for Summer 2018 applicants. I am in the process of taking Hesi exam. I have completed all my prerequisite courses needed for the program.

Little bit about me:

BS in Microbiology in 2005 -GPA (3.05)

MPH degree in Epidemiology in 2012-GPA (3.85)

Associate degree of Science in 2017-GPA (4.0)

Hesi test-will be taking it in August

Working full time with City Health department as an epidemiologist specialist since last five years. I am also a mom of two boys.

Got accepted to MUSC college of nursing program but declined it. Also got accepted to Johns Hopkins Entry into Masters of nursing program for Fall 2017 but had to deffer it to Fall 2018 due to financial circumstances.

Trying to apply for the in-state school due to affordable tuition as well as easy commute.

I really hope i can get into UT Health Science center pacesetter program as it's my first option as it's closest to me as well as it's affordable and one of the best programs in Texas.

Thank you so much! I'm not sure what to do next I'm sure they will be sending us more info on steps to take now that we've been accepted . Should we create a FB page ? Is that what your cohort did? Or does the school do that for us?

That is a great idea to make a fb group now! Every cohort has a fb group (made by a classmate~ so one of you guys should make one) and you'll use it for the entirety of your nursing school. Also upperclassmen will join it and they'll give you advice! It's an awesome resource to have

Yeah let's do that! If you don't mind.

UTHSC Summer 2018

Will you send the link once its made?

Wouldn't it be named "2019" ? I'm unable to find it ..

What color do our scrubs have to be. Do you have a "shopping list" of things to get before school starts? If you don't mind. Thanks!!

Your scrubs will need to be navy blue (it's a pretty dark shade of blue). They are now starting to embroider scrubs so if you buy them from outside the bookstore you'll need to deliver them to the bookstore so they can get embroidered~ it's not a huge stress since you can order your name tags/any other supplies you want to purchase there at the same time and pick it up in one order. For your health assessment lab it'd be great to have your own stethoscope and watch with 2nd hand. I got one of those scrub pocket organizers from amazon (has penlight, pen, etc) and I really like it! Also for clinicals you'll need a clipboard so if you want to plan ahead that could be purchased (the foldable ones are awesome).

In terms of supplies, it's not necessary to go overboard. If you really want a great deal, many upperclassmen will sell their textbooks so you can do well there. Some people may sell you their used "black bag" (it has supplies you need for labs), but otherwise you can buy it from the bookstore and it's like $115 (the most expensive thing you'll need). You also don't need a super expensive steth or anything~ my big advice is to get your immunizations/other holds worked on ASAP so you don't have to stress. Those who waited last minute had a lot of added anxiety. Hope this helped! ;)
