Summer 3 Mayo clinic nurse externship 2017

U.S.A. Minnesota

Published

Hey guys! I know that we're still a few months from the application opening, but I'm so excited I can't wait!

I'd love to hear from any of the previous years' externs and anyone planning on applying this summer.

Do you think they will ask for letters of recommendation too?

No. I don't believe they will.

I put critical care as my first choice! Does anyone know approximately how many spots there are this year??

My best guess is 50 like last year

I wonder if they will announce who got in via email or by mail...Do you think most people get in after passing the initial round?

There are 100 of us in the final round and 50 will be chosen

Good luck everyone!

I got a letter askign for transcripts and placement choices. My gpa is not very high though, so I think that could kick me out. I am super excited about making it this far!!!

People I am STRESSING. The deadline for sending in transcripts and placement preferences is today and I have everything sent in, but the more I look at old posts the more stressed I am getting and it is NOT good for my mental health.

So, that being said, let's all nerd out about this externship in an effort to take our minds off of whether we got in or not.

I heard about this externship by fluke really, I was visiting my sister in Phoenix and she mentioned how Mayo Scottsdale has an externship. That was Spring of 2016, so you can imagine how I'm feeling right now, so close to finding out whether I get to go to the Mecca of Medicine.

How did you hear about the Mayo externship?

You aren't the only one. It is exciting, nerve wrecking, and stressful waiting for the final selections. Whatever the outcome is though, I feel it is an honor we have made it this far, and God has got a plan for us all no matter what. :)

I go to a college that has a work education program where we work fifteen hours a week and two forty hour work weeks during breaks to pay tuition. If you work during the summer, your room and board is covered for the next year. I was working at switchboard during the summer of 2015, and I was researching externships to pass the eight hour shift by and Mayo clinic happened to be in my search. When I applied, I didn't expect to make it this far at all. I just feel really blessed. :)

Hi guys,

I just took a midterm today (NCLEX) style so I was under a lot of stress just because that style of testing is difficult. I can't wait to feel like I can master NCLEX style questions. Anyway, I heard about the Mayo Clinic at school. My school offers a list of nursing externships and Mayo was definitely on the top of my list of schools to apply to.

I know in recent years they found out a couple days earlier than what was originally posted, so I was wondering if anyone had some insight regarding this? Ahaha I'm just so nervous!!
