Judith, I found out at my school about the internship. They just had a posting on our bulletin board. There are a couple hospitals in my area that offer summer internships to students who have completed 1 year of ADN or are entering their 4th year of BSN. It's a wonderful opportunity. They do it primarily to attract students to the hospital after graduation.
babynurse.. Ortho isn't that bad.. :) I just don't understand why noone likes it..
Just kidding.. I actually work on an Ortho floor as a PCA and when I start almost a year ago.. I HATED IT!!!! But now I LOVE IT!!!!.. It is hard work unlike many floors where patients can take care of themselves.... I think I like it b/c you get to see alot...
Most broken hips are not JUST broken hips.. They have diabetes or CHF or COPD or many other health problems..
KimRN03.. I think you will love it... I am wanting to be a Pediatrics nurse, but I think I am gonna stay with Ortho for a while after I graduate, and who knows I may never leave :)

Just wanted to shout from the top of my lungs that I just received an Internship on an Ortho unit for the summer! I am sooooo psyched! It's like a 10 week clinical except I get PAID!! I get to shadow a RN for 3 days a week and perform all the skills I have learned so far under her discretion and I get to go somewhere else in the hospital for one day each week just to observe and I get PAID for that too! I am so excited!! The interviewing/application process was extremely competitive.
