Summer hours?

Published

I'm already planning my summer schedule and I'm just wondering how many hours others are/have taken during the summer. Last summer was my first semester back in school and was my first summer semester ever, so I only took A&P1. This summer I am at least planning for Pharm., which is three hours, but was considering Arts Appreciation(3) or Microcomputers (4) or both. Pharm. is only offered online at my campus. I have and am taking classes online and am comfortable with it. How many hours do you think would be appropriate for summer with these classes? I'll have kids home during the summer but two days of parents day out/week (10hrs total) for them also.

(I'm trying to stay busy because the fact that I can't apply to my programs until Jan. (because I am doing AP2 this semester) is making me stir crazy. Nursing school won't start til summer or fall next year, depending on which program I get into. I want a full load but also want time for my kids during the summer and don't want to make myself wish I had taken it lighter.)

I took 9 hours and I loved it. Kept me busy and gave me plenty of time to work.

I took summer classes in 2009 and 2010. In 2009 I took A&P 1 for 6 weeks and then A&P 2 for the next 6 weeks (4 credits each course which included labs 2x a week). In 2010 I took nutrition (3 cr) and medical terminology (4 cr), all online during one 6 week summer session. It was all very manageable considering as well I worked full time during both these summers. I think it is important to make sure you don't overload yourself with too many dense courses at once. For instance, taking A&P and micro during one 6 week summer session is not wise at all, actually suicidal, lol. I don't recommend taking more than one course in any one session. But in my case medical terminology was a joke and was a simple class to take along with nutrition.

I've taken 6 hours in the summer and it's totally do-able. The classes are a lot more condensed than in the regular semesters, but you can do it!

I took Micro, AP2 and Algebra at the same time last semester and it wasn't suicidal. I made A's in Micro and Algebra and a B in AP 2, so it CAN be done.

In a regular semester, it's not a big deal. Micro, AP2 and Algebra in one 6 week summer session IS suicidal! Although I must admit I don't think a school would allow that many credits to be taken in one session anyway.

I took AP1 over the whole summer. They do not offer all courses that way, I will have to see what is offered when, when the new schedule comes out. I know they only offered psych, in mini-mesters. If the classes are only offered in mini semesters I would probably only do 1 each mini-mester. Is it common that the majority of courses would only be in mini-mesters?
