Summer 2020 Grand Canyon University (GCU)

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone! Did anyone else apply to Grand Canyon University’s nursing program for the summer 2020 term? What are your guys nursing GPA and HESI score? I am so nervous, I don’t know what to expect since they are cutting the Banner Boswell location!

Yes, it was my first time applying! But I decided to change my major because my scores would not be as competitive to apply for the fall, and I’d rather get my degree already and pursue GCU’s nursing program afterwards. Only thing that sucks is the price, but it’ll be worth it in the end! It would be two separate degrees from the same school, which looks great also. But yes, I know of many people who had worse GPAs and got accepted and vise versa. There is not a legitimate rule in my opinion. The cool part about the ABSN program is that there would be no waitlist and you get accepted, as long as you meet all of the requirements (which is the same requirements for the traditional program)! Many other Universities, like NAU, has this same exact program. It’s become a common thing in colleges nationwide.

Yeah thats what scares me. I think that there is something else that they look at, but they don't tell us or something. I just couldn't understand how people were getting in with lower scores in 2 of the three categories compared to others who didn't get in. I guess there must be some way they insert the numbers, but I don't know. I was trying to get a feel of how many people were on the alternate list because its going to be hard to have to wait 2 more months to get the results, but I guess it will hopefully be worth it in the end.

Thank you for your post and insight into the ABSN program ! So what degree are you going to be graduating with?

I emailed the CONHCP to let them know I have accepted to position as an alternate.

Any alternates choose the Summer/Fall option ?

I did! I'm so nervous to see if we got in!

Praying for us! I'm hoping that having two options will give us a better chance!

Wait, does this mean they are letting more people in? I didn't think so, but I could be wrong!

I’m not sure! I’m just thinking that if they’re going to have two options they have to have enough students to occupy both options! I’m hoping that means more seats but we’ll just have to wait and find out !

Yeah I could definitely see that! I was kinda thinking that too, but once they hopefully go back to normal in the Spring, they may have too many people. Like you said though, we will just have to wait and see:)

Hi! I was wondering if anyone is in or has heard much about the ABSN program at GCU?

I’m actually starting the Phoenix ABSN in January. I’m hearing some iffy reviews from some students who started the program this fall. I guess it’s literally 90% online and not 50/50 like the way it has been advertised and been said. There also wasn’t any powerpoints or any other guidance but many complained, so they are starting to give out powerpoints (not as helpful). And the Phoenix location isn’t allowing any in-person clinicals yet, but almost every other nursing program in Arizona has In-person clinicals. I’m kind of conflicted, but I’m hoping the program changes and gets better in January.
