Hey everyone! Did anyone else apply to Grand Canyon University’s nursing program for the summer 2020 term? What are your guys nursing GPA and HESI score? I am so nervous, I don’t know what to expect since they are cutting the Banner Boswell location!

I also applied. I had a 3.5 GPA and an 89.20% overall on my HESI. What did you apply with?

Hello! That's a great question that I never thought of. I emailed my counselor and he said although he cant give an exact number, the number of seats offered will not be affected because of the Boswell campus closure. I hope this helps! ?

I applied and was selected as an alternate not sure what that means. I had a 3.61 and a 88% overall on my hesi. This is what it said on the email
For reference, below are the averages for those who were initially accepted this semester:
Average prerequisite GPA: 3.77
Average programmatic GPA: 3.80
Average HESI A2 scores:
English Language Composition: 89.49
Math: 95.49
Human Anatomy and Physiology: 92.09
Hi! I was also placed as an alternate. I have a 3.5 gpa and an 88 hesi score.
I was too unsure what that means so I am reaching out to my counselor to find out.
It means we are in limbo until the week before classes start, if we choose to remain as alternates. I spoke with my counselor she said I will proceed as if I’m accepted , and they won’t know what extra seats are available till after grades go in for the current semester. So basically we won’t know anything until the week before class starts, she said they could even call the day before and tell you that you’re accepted. I’m just very scared now seeing how competitive it was, I don’t want to apply in the fall just to not get accepted and have to change majors.
I totally feel you on this!! I think that it is still a blessing that we are still being considered and not rejected, but you are right its just lot of unknown questions. How my counselor put it is if everyone passes level 1 this semester and just say there are 10 available seats and 10 people on the list, all will get in. So basically there is open seats still, they are just not filled and cant be till the end of the semester. So really, we still have a chance.
Are you still going to remain an alternate?
Yes, I'll remain an alternate. No sense in wasting a chance to get in if something like your example happens. I'd hate to miss my opportunity, especially when we still aren't guaranteed for the fall semester. It will just suck not being able to plan for these next couple of months. But hopefully if there is a will there is a way, because I have the will, just need the opportunity.
I completely understand what you're saying! It's hard enough that we had to wait this 1 month to hear if we got in, now we have to wait another 2 months. Also unfortunate that we wont be able to plan. Like dropping a class will be hard because if you do get accepted, it wouldn't matter if you got a low grade, but if you don't then it will affect your gpa for next fall, and we wont knowing we got in till it's too late to drop a class. It sucks, but at least we are still getting the opportunity to be kept in mind. I believe in the process and will be praying for both of us ?
I did not get accepted, but my scores were about the same as yours. GCU has a new ABSN program, so I am changing my major because I am able to graduate next spring. With my Bachelor's, I can apply to their ABSN (need a non-nursing degree). If you guys need a back-up plan, this is ideal if you want to get your BSN from GCU in the end. It is just very, very expensive.

Hi. Thank you so much for the information! Was this your first time applying? Honestly, I don't really understand the acceptance stuff as much as I thought I did. There are some people that had a really good gpa and a descent hesi score, but one would be slightly lower than the other persons and one would get in and the other wouldn't. I am still hopeful, but I hope that everything works out for you.
Yes, it was my first time applying! But I decided to change my major because my scores would not be as competitive to apply for the fall, and I’d rather get my degree already and pursue GCU’s nursing program afterwards. Only thing that sucks is the price, but it’ll be worth it in the end! It would be two separate degrees from the same school, which looks great also. But yes, I know of many people who had worse GPAs and got accepted and vise versa. There is not a legitimate rule in my opinion. The cool part about the ABSN program is that there would be no waitlist and you get accepted, as long as you meet all of the requirements (which is the same requirements for the traditional program)! Many other Universities, like NAU, has this same exact program. It’s become a common thing in colleges nationwide.
