Summer Entry 2013 Accelerated BSN/MSN Johns Hopkins

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi everyone,

How many of you have applied for the 2013 Accelerated BSN/MSN program at JHU SON? I applied early decision and completed my phone interview on the 26th. They said they will start making decisions calls around the December 15th which is a Saturday so I'm sure we won't hear anything until the 17th or later.

Is anyone else as anxious as I am to hear back from them? I even made a vision board on my fridge that reads: I WILL GET ACCEPTED INTO THE JOHNS HOPKINS BSN/MSN PROGRAM STARTING SUMMER 2013. Positive thoughts work, right? :saint:

FYI: I also applied to Columbia, Ohio State, and UCLA.

hopefulnurse24 is correct, you will hear NO LATER than March 1st but it could be sooner it just all depends on when your application is done making its rounds through the admissions committee. Many people read through the applications so it does take time and this application cycle a high number of applications are being processed plus there is major backlog from the few days lost due to Hurricane Sandy and the extension of deadlines, I work in the admissions office as my work study so I am not just making this up, I answer these questions from many prospective students all the time. If it helps when I applied last year I was regular decision (submitted my app fairly close to the 1/15 deadline) and I got my acceptance phone call on 2/23/12 (yes I remember the date haha). I know the waiting game sucks, just try to relax and not think about it. :)

That's true! It is BY March first. My bad :) I just automatically tell myself to expect nothing until the first so that I'm not constantly waiting for a call/email, haha!

I understand! I'm just trying to take it all on a day by day basis. I made myself sick with worry and anxiety when I was waiting for the Penn interview decisions, and my specialty ended up being notified on the dead last day that they were doing it, and I ended up being invited to interview... and after that, I told myself NEVER AGAIN! I was literally checking my email every 5 minutes, like a crazy person haha. I jumped every time I heard my phone go off with a new email, and was reading this website obsessively. NEVER AGAIN!

Ah! I did the same thing waiting for UPenn! And earlier for JHU's post-interview decision (I was originally told 4-6 weeks because they gave me the early decision deadline). But now I've decided to be calm. But of course there are always butterflies :)

They gave me the early decision deadline, too! I actually had called sometime in November to ask what was going on, because after I had my interview in October, I was told that I would hear by January at the latest because my application was now considered complete and they wouldn't sit on it and wait to notify me, so I was really confused. So I called and they told me that I would actually hear "any day". I was like WHAT?! Haha. I definitely wasn't expecting that. And then I found out again that it would be by March 1st. So I've definitely been freaking out for awhile! But yes, you are right, there are definitely always butterflies. It's hard not to worry... we've all put a lot of time and money into this, and of course, blood, sweat and tears. But it is also important to realize that we've done all we can do at this point, and that it is completely out of our control now. Or at least, that's what I keep telling myself... lol.

It will all work out and pay off in the end guys.....the wait is the hardest part! I'm rooting for all of you :)

To any current hopkins students,

How many scrubs do we need to buy? I looked and they are pricey with the hopkins emblem and stuff.

Can we buy like combination of white polo and blue tops with blue pants? or you prefer one over the other?

Last, do we need the white lab coat?

Thank you much.

Did anyone attend the online chat today? any new information?

For my first semester I had 2 sets of blue scrubs.....I would hold off on the polo until you find out what your clinical placement is for the first semester. If you are at JHH you will need it so I needed mine first semester however my roommate was out at Northwest Hospital and she could wear the scrub set so she never wore her polo. I bought my one set of scrubs when I was at accepted students day last year and they were on sale, then i picked up another set when i got to school from a student who had just graduated. It is convenient to have 2 sets because the dress code for the first semester is anytime you have lab (which is pretty much everyday) you are required to wear either your scrubs or business casual with the lab coat. I preferred the scrubs so I honestly did not use my lab coat other than when I wear it to work/give tours in admissions. You will however need the lab coat second semester when you start psych. Hope this helps!

Hopkins is killing me. I really wish summer starts would be able to know if we got in before March 1.
