Suffolk County Community College 2017 Applicants

Published

Starting the thread for those anxious applicants trying to get a read on this year's pool of candidates...

So who is willing to post what they've scored?

Here's mine:

A&P 1: A

A&P 2: B+

Eng 1: A

Eng 2: B+

Micro: ___

Psych: A

Stats: C- (blah!)

TEAS: 78

Not particularly found of the revision to the rubric.

So what are you holding???

Me too! I hate we have to wait so long to find out...

Hey there! I applied for an merman day as first choice and grant day as second choice. My grades are:

A&P 1- B

A & P 2- _

Psych- B

Eng1- B

Eng2- B

Stats- A

Micro- _

Teas- 75.6

Praying that I get into something, but if not I'll just continue with my pre reqs and re take the teas. I took it with the horrible stomach virus that was going around and I had to rush through it before I threw up again- so I think I can do a bit better if I take it again.

Wow everyone seems to have already taken a few classes.. when I went to the information seminar they said pre-reqs weren't needed as long as you took the teas. Now I'm worried I don't have enough to make the cut :(

Who's applying to lpn to rn program or is everyone doin straight rn

I would have tried for that but they don't offer it in the fall so I went for the regular rn program.

So it's unlikely that I did well enough to get in because I haven't taken A+PI or II, Micro or Statistics and I should have studied more for the TEAS but after meeting with the Director of Admissions I can explain how the rubric works if that will help some of you.

The Rubric works on a 100 point scale. If you look at your TEAS score and break it down by section, you are awarded points for your scores in each section. Starting at the top of the rubric if your overall score was proficient that = 0 points. Advanced=20 points and Exemplary=25 points. Additional points are added by section. 50's on a section is 1 point, 60's on a section is 7 points, 70's is 8 points, 80's is 10 points and 90's is 12 points. Plus the additional points according to your grades for each class taken.

I I have a long way to go I feel before I have a shot but understanding the rubric I thought might help those of you who are wondering where you stand.

Larrin42 what was your teas score if you don't mind me asking? I only ask because all I have is my teas score, I haven't taken any prereqs yet but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that I'll have a chance.

I received a 74 on my TEAS so I missed out on the "advanced" category on the rubric which is the equivalent of loosing 20 points. I added up my reading section, math section, science section and English section according to the rubric for a total of 35 points. Then the few pre reqs I have from my associates degree from Suffolk from years ago brings me to a total rubric score of 44 out of 100 possible points. Had I scored a 78 on the TEAS that would have added the 20 additional points and it would have brought me to a 64 which I would have been confident that I had a small shot. I heard that there's only 72 seats and that there are well over 350 applicants. It is highly competitive and those who have already taken the science courses have an advantage. I figure if I don't get in I will take the pre reqs and keep trying. I will be a nurse. "Ain't nobody going to hold me down." :-P Good Luck to you!

Im pretty sure the Teas break down goes as follows

Proficent 60-79 - (0 points on rubric)

Advanced 80-89- (20 points on rubric)

Exemplarily 90-100- (25 points on rubric)

You also get 2 points for taking the Teas once, losing that if taken again.

I applied with a 73/100 based on the rubric hoping to get in.

You are correct that is how it breaks down. Looks like you have a great shot!

That's a good attitude! I was told there are 72 spots at grant and i think another 50ish at ammerman but I might be wrong.. so far it looks like a lot of people scored in the 70's on the teas so I'm not too worried about that. It's all the applicants with the extra points for classes taken that worry me. But I'm set to start classes this semester and I taking ap1, stats & eng comp 101. I might even take the teas again afterwards cuz the science portion was what hurt my score so much since I hadn't taken a&p yet.. if I don't make it in this round I will apply again in august for the evening session.. good luck everybody!

I'm so nervous , does anybody know the amount of seats hold for Sccc nursing program I also didn't do so well on the teas either :(
