Suffolk Community College RN program

Published

Hi everyone - I just got accepted to RN prg at SCC Ammerman at night, ( I am trying to change to days due to posssible job change at work, and to shave a year off...) .. But I have a few questions for current student. What are the schedules like for night and or day, and also are there anyt professors I should stay away from, and last but not least, do you usually get to do your clinicals at your first choice hospital? I work at Stonybrook and would love to do them there. I actually have millions of questions - my seminar is on the 27th of May, I just hope they go over everything. Oh yes and one more thing, is there anything that I can do to speed up the 2 yrs? All of my electives and everything are done, I only have the NURSING courses to take. So are you able to advance at a quicker rate, or do you staay with youur class at all times and just have a lighter schedule??

Thanks for anyones time and help. I am nervous, scared and amost driviing myself crazy!! So ANY info would be helpful...

Thanks again!

Hi

I graduated from SCC Ammerman a few years ago. I started in the Brentwood campus, then switched to nights at Ammerman, then got impatient and wanted to graduate already and went back to days. I thought it was a great program. As you will learn there are always certain professors to stay away from. If you give me the professors names I can tell you the good ones. Also for the clinicals too. I can;t remember all of them.

If you can take Health assessment over the summer do it. Also I took medical micro at Farmingdale, I think it was 5x week, evenings, maybe for 4 weeks. Much better than regular micro. The class usually got out early.

FYI I graduated a few years ago and currently work as a clinical supervisor in Manhattan at an ambulatory center. $$$ is great. I do not have my BSN.. You just need the confidence to do any thing. I'll be glad to help you out with any questions.

Good Luck!

Hello

I like the first poster have a lot of questions, especially about people to avoid. and i know that this post does not allow for posters for that, is there any way I Could Email you with my questions?

also you mentioned that you dont need a bsn, I have a bechelors in psychology and now i am going back to nursing, I am already enrolled for ammerman, but i am on the waiting list for stony brook, . I thought i will not chose stony brook if get in, but lately i been second guessing myself with all the hype about bsn vs associate.

what do you think about that?

any advise is appreciated.

thank you
