Sub acute/ Rehab RN wanting to transition back to Acute Nursing! Need advice

With the New Year here, I am contemplating a transition back to Acute nursing @ hospital. I have become too comfortable where I am at, feeling no real challenge and growth in my nursing career /experience. I admit I feel a bit anxious and nervous about moving on to better things but I know I need to. When your facility supervisors requiring loads of documentation for a 1cm skin tear...it's just getting too tiresome and annoying. I would understand documentation for a acute change of condition/ status....but for small things it's just crazy:-(. I do have some acute experience many years ago, but that ended due to gender discrimination and fear of retaliation from my super at that time. The job market is tough in Hawaii. I been an RN since 2003, also have experiences in L &D, community health, CM, Adult day health, special needs, and even an assistant nursing Administrator. I took some nurses advice and I got my ACLS, which was intensive, but I really had so much fun doing it and learned a lot. I am hoping to get into a hospital maybe neuro and tele, later transition to the exciting life saving nursing like ER, ICU, CCU. I honestly don't have much regrets with the nursing path I had to take which was based on circumstances, financial, opportunities at the time. It has made me to the RN I am today. I am currently one of the main Night shift House supervisors at my facility, but again I'm tired, not motivated, annoyed by the little things. It's sad my attempts to apply to nearby hospitals has been unsuccessful....just wish they would give me a fighting chance/ opportunity to prove I will be an assets to their nursing staff. Thinking of taking a Telemetry course....none I could find locally, but wondering of anyone knows of any good online courses/ programs I could take that could help me make me a more attractive potential employee. Hope to hear from some seasoned RNs willing to give me advice and direction, or even mentor me. Thanks for your time in reading my thoughts:-)

Sorry I don't have any idea about any online courses. Did you check the local hospitals for any? Ours offers all types of those courses free for their employees and a fee for anyone else. I had no idea I would've been able to take those courses before I worked there as long as I paid their fee. I would call their educational dept's and check. It sounds like you have a lot of experience so that's in your favor! Good luck-I say go for it because life is too short to not be growing and enjoying what you do!

They require that in acute care, too. You can not escape :)

I wouldn't mention that on any application or in any interview.
