Hi everyone,
I haven't seen a thread so far for Seattle University BSN applicants for Fall of 2017. I have submitted my application and I know that they are going to be holding interviews at the end of this month and beginning of March. I was curious to know if anyone has gotten an email asking them to attend an interview yet? I know we are only in the first week of Feb but thought they would at least send something out now for people to plan in advance for there interview.
Also since this is a new year how about we leave a little bit about ourselves for the people who applied. I will start..
I will be a transfer student currently holding a A.S degree. I applied with a 3.3 prereq GPA. I still have nutrition and microbiology to complete by the spring and hope that the last classes to complete will bring my GPA to a 3.4. As far as experience goes I was a CNA for about 5 years straight out of high school and currently now a Medical Assistant for the past 2. As a medical assistant I have worked at Swedish Medical Group here in Seattle in an urgent care type setting and currently now UW Medical ER department. All paid experience. I did receive a letter of req from a NP that I worked with at Swedish, but I know SU does not necessarily require a letter of req. I am hoping that my experience will compensate for my somewhat lower GPA. I worked full time while going full time to finish my prereq's and hope that is a dedication they will see when reviewing my application.
Nice work Buttercup.12, those are better odds than I had anticipated. Good detective work on counting the slots, I did not think of that.
Still haven't gotten anything in the mail either. I suppose being interviewed is such a good sign already. I know and work with a couple SU bsn grads and heard that the interviews were more of a way to make sure the most competitive applicants were a good fit for nursing (I guess they had a couple bad personalty types in previous cohorts); the interviews are a recent implementation because of this.
@Bsnapplicant, there hasn't been any typical successful nursing applicant other than a conglomeration of factors which make them competitive and/or a good fit for the profession/school where they're applying. I work with a navy vet, a former pizza maker, and both of them went through SU's bsn program. You sound very competitive and hopefully, in the next few days, we can both celebrate that we got in.
Hello hello everyone!
I can't wait til next week to get the decisions mailed back to us, sounds like forever!
But good luck to everyone :) Being interviewed means you guys are already very likely candidates!
P.S. Does anyone know the pros and cons of SU's nursing program vs SPU's nursing program?
Hey leadtheway! I can speak a little to SPU and SU since we have nursing students from all the local BSN programs coming to harborview medical center for their clinicals.
SU and SPU both have consistently brought in the highest caliber of nursing students imo and the opinion of many of my coworkers. The students seems happier, well prepared, and the instructors are present and very communicative with both staff and their students.
SU is perhaps more centrally located to clinical sites although I'm not sure where the school of nursing for SPU is located or where those students will be spending most of their time. It can be a real pain getting in and out of the east side of queen anne/fremont/ballard during rush hour if it is on SPU's main campus.
I think that, either SPU or SU, you'll be getting into a great program with numerous resources and a faculty that is centered around educating future nurses.
Hey guys! Soo I received an email from SU today with some info about what financial aid and scholarships I was awarded it also included instructions for setting up my student log in for SU..I then logged into my application and it changed from "under review" to "Access your official admissions decisions online" I then clicked on it and it says I was accepted to "Seattle University to pursue a Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree", it also said that an official admittance packet was on the way....Now I am super confused... I do not want to get my hopes up and assume this means I was accepted into the BSN program. So I am assuming this means I was just accepted to SU as a general transfer...? What do you guys think? Can you guys log into your SU application and check your application status and also check your emails to see if you received any financial aid info/awards letter and see if yours has changed?

Hello,
I checked my mail today and haven't gotten anything.
I have a 3.9 cum gpa, 4.0 prereq gpa, 5 months cna experience at retirement home (500 hrs), 100 hrs volunteer experience, trilingual, and I volunteered at a food bank and managed a restaurant. Really hoping I get in! SU is my #1 choice. But I got rejected from UW so I'm nervous about getting rejected again:( I also applied to SPU. If I don't get into any, I think I'm going to apply to BC and Shoreline.
I thought my interview at SU went fine, but I do think they pair it with the application. I also had a recommendation letter done by my boss who has a BSN.
Does anyone have friends who got into the program last cohort, and could a brief summary on their profile be provided? I have a friend who got in 2 years ago and she didn't have her CNA, but I'm worried that SU will only accept CNAs with hospital experience now that it's become more competitive. I hear about 80 people get in, and ~45 are waitlisted out of 200 interviewed. Seems like a lot for a waitlist though to me. Anyone else have more info on that in case I'm wrong??
