Studying tips / Nursing school student

Published

Hi,

I am struggling with digesting this Fundamentals book. I am a first quarter nursing student and the information is heavy and not as organized as id like. Are there any suggestions for breaking up the chapters or studying tips that helped others through nursing school..ie flashcards..

I'm in my second semester. I had a hard time with the nursing aspect of fundamentals, less so with the patho. My suggestion is to read a book like Saunders NCLEX as an accompaniment to your textbook, it helped me immensely, as did the Nugent book. As for study strategies, it really comes down to the type of learner you are. I personally loathe flashcards, but I love to drill questions with rationales.

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

It's tough learning how to manage nursing curriculum! I've also heard good things about Saunders during the program, though I did not use it myself. I did a lot of skimming and note cards, and that got me through well. I will also record myself reading certain things, and listen to it in the car. It helps it stick, between reading it aloud, listening to it, repeating as necessary, etc. It's also something I've written for myself, so I am getting it from multiple means.

Some people really like study groups. If you can get together with classmates that won't chit chat the whole time, it might be worthwhile.

Just a little AN tip, I would change your pic to something anonymous, as you never know who might come across you here! :) We value anonymity on AN, for your protection.
