Studying

This may sound really silly, and has probably been asked tons of times, but I am looking for different ways of studying, I have tried numerous different methods, but still have a really hard time remembering things. Does anyone have any brillant ideas, because quite frankly I'm fresh out of good ideas and really want to do well.

Thanks

I try very hard to read before class (becaues it does help adn ou teachers will do pop quizes). Also, I find that the study guides with books are great because our tests come from the book publisher.

Also, I prefer to use a notebook (spiral) to take notes so when I am ready to study for a test I can just flip through the notebook, at first this term I tried looseleaf and notes on the powerpoint slides but I didn't do too well. I got a 84 on the first test this term (this is a C according to the grading scale). I got a 94 on the 2nd test (we took last week). So, reviewing the cdrom that came with the book, meeting with my study group and doing the study guides helped. Also, when we did the study guides during our group session, we discuss the "why" because the teachers are always after the "why" reasons! :):)

I do this too and most of you will probably fall out of your chairs at this one... but I also keep a pen or pencil with me and make notes in my book as I read. I can't tell you how useful that has been to me, it keeps me focused as I'm reading and then it helps me when I have it in front of me during lecture to remember where I need clarification etc.. Also, when I'm reviewing for exams my notes here and there help with my recall of the material on that page AND during exams I can often visualize the page a certain piece of info is on simply because of the notes I jotted down. Info just seems to cement itself in my head better when I do this.. The re-sale on all my books is low to nil, but I figure the A's are worth it.

I do all this too!!! It really helps with retaining the info. It's awesome that I can visualize a picture in the book - really helps me with hyper, hypo and iso- tonic, as well as the cell structure and physiology. I wrote little notes on the cell diagram page, with each part's function, and it really helped.

Also, using ACRONYMS! For level of organization, I think COCTOSO (chemical, organelle, cell, tissue, organ, system, organism). For Mitosis, I think PMAT - prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase).

As soon as I got my test, I would write the memorization item on my answer sheet so I wouldn't forget it if test taking anxiety hit. I immediately flip through the test and answer any listing, labeling, or short answer questions first and then answer the multiple choice questions.

I do this too! It really helps! That way the stuff you KNOW you know is fresh and the anxiety doesn't interfere.
