Studying

How many hours per day do you think is recommended to pass boards? I been studying everyday since I graduated from nursing school in December. My friend who is an RN says I study too much & my husband says it also, & they say sometimes you can overstudy. Is this true? I can't seem to understand what the questions are asking. I been getting in the 50%-60% on practice questions I do at home, 40% on one. I know this is not good. I know repetition is the key, but I am just nervous about this test. I do 50-100 questions a day & go back & read the rationales on the ones I missed & the ones I got correct also. I had a Saunders 3rd edition, but this morning I went out & bought the 4th editition. Some days I just cry because my scores are sooo low. What more can I do??

You cannot expect different results if you continue to practice the same way. What is it that you do not understand? Have you tried the course online at www.ncsbn.org?

That is the organization that writes the NCLEX.

Also, I agree with your friends and family. You need to relax a little and let the information sink in. You cannot commit information to longterm memory at this stage and that is the type of information you need when you test. Putting it in short-term memory does not make it available for recall. What you might focus on instead is testing strategies. Consider a lab at your school. They might have a way to practice and get some analysis.

Hey, I have not taken the test yet but I have learned that you must break in between your study sessions so you will not get burnt out. Good luck to you. Don't cry, It will be just fine :-)

Thank you so much. I appreciate the feedback. I will try to relax. I know that you can't memorize information for NCLEX. I know that the information have to go into your long term memory so you can understand the facts. I will try the test taking strategies in the Saunders book. I tried Kaplan test taking strategy & haven't had any success with it. Once again thank you all.

Hi. I was browsing around the forums. And I know what you mean I've been doing at least a 100 questions a day (Saunders 3rd Ed.) and I keep getting 55%-65% on my results. I read the rationales on the questions that I miss, and rationales on the ones that i got correct.

So any thoughts on how to modify my studying habits?

Yeah, I mean you read the rationales and everything & your grade still is not going up. I am going to read Pyramid to Success in the Saunders book for test taking strategies. Maybe that will help.

K much appreciated Destiny. I'm planning to take mine in Mid March. How about u?
