i see posts of people taking this test 4 and 5 times and finally passing or continue to fail. I'm so afraid I'll be one of those people. I did well in school and have been studying a little each day using the cd. but wow some of these questions are just unreal. What can I do to better prepare? this test is 200 dollars as it is. I've been looking for a job as a GPN but know if I fail that I would lose the job. I know I'll have to schedule the test soon before I start forgetting information. Any advice?
Greetings Everybody,I, too, am about to take the NCLEX-PN - I found the amount of material in the various study guides to be overwhelming. The Saunders book is over a thousand pages, for instance. Then I found Zerwekh and Clabon's "Illustrated Study Guide for the NCLEX-PN Exam." It's published by Mosby/Elsevier, which I know is a reputable company.
First of all, does anyone have experience with this book? As well, does anybody have any suggestions about additional study material, such as flash cards?
Secondly, the books seems "doable," and as well, there is a cd with over 2000 test questions. What do y'all think of focusing on this book? As well, there are so many web sites that offer test questions.
Definitely doing test practices every day is a good thing.
Thanks for your input and good luck!

Diahni, you are not alone. I will be taking the Nclex -pn in three weeks. I bought Saunders and Lippinccotts by Williams & Wilkins. They both have too much information and I feel like I won't have enough time to go through them before testing.
I signed up for NCSBN online review. Now I feel overwhelmed. I just want to pick one out of the three and stick to it, but don't know which to choose. I know that whichever I choose, answering many questions daily will help a lot.
Good luck.

I would think that doing a bunch of questions everyday would be good, but still I get spooked when people say the test is "nothing like"
their practice exams. How on earth could that be? What are you going to do with the boys during this period? I had friends at school who actually stayed at motels to prepare to stay away from all the demands of hearth and home. How about all those practice tests online, too? I keep hearing "priority" questions are big, and I bet they're not obvious (like somebody is gasping for air is a priority, duh) Another point is that is seems that a big obstacle is people getting jangled during the test (repeat slowly...relax, and I can always take it again.)
after all, it's not one strike and you're out. I don't mean to be defeatist, though, you can do it! One strategy I have is, oh this question asks about electrolyte levels, hmm better recite them to myself, stuff like that. I heard people got stumped on the multicultural stuff - sometimes you just wouldn't know a particular thing, yet thinking about the culture at hand may tell you a thing or two about what you have to be sensitive about. Critical thinking! I have to laugh about all the blab about critical thinking when in fact there's a right way, a wrong way and the nursing way.
If I can be of any help, please send me a pm. When all is said and done, I can help but think that what the NCELX tells you is how good you are at taking the NCLEX. If you're overwhelmed by all the different sources of test taking reviews, make an informed choice to stick with one - as I mentioned in some post, the Saunders book is so
detailed, and let's face it, they're testing for basic safety and knowledge skills of a beginning nurse. Hang in there!
