Studying for entrance..

Published

Hi all! I am currently studying to take my entrance exam for Watts! I can honestly say I'm a little overwhelmed. I tend to be excellent at English and Science, but Math makes me super nervous!! Is there anyone else that struggles with Math? Am I going to be at a HUGE disadvantage? Will I be ok if I know the basics? I don't plan to quit before I'm ahead... but I can't help but be nervous. Any suggestions?? Thanks!!

Hey! I'm in the same boat as you girl. Math is horrible! : / I bought the Review guide for the LPN/LVN pre-entrance exam book. It is really good and im actually doing okay with the math. There is alot of fractions, decimals and percentages and knowing how to multiply, add, and divide them. I'm really good in English, but the reading part was hard!!! Like seriously, the answers to the questions seemed stupid and wrong to me. And plus they were all kinda the same answers. But anyways, That book is great. I havent gotten to the science part yet, but I hear it is difficult. Just study study! Ive changed my mind on going to a private college but Im still studying this book b/c I'm taking the compass test for my community college tomorrow. Then start next month on my pre nursing pre-reqs. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!! :jester:

Hey there! I haven't taken the entrance exam quite yet, but from what I've researched, although there are different forms of an exam-type, they usually contain very little math on the mathematics portion, and what it does contain, you should be just fine knowing the basic math skills. Don't sweat it! Just study and focus, you'll do great! Set your nerves aside and practice some math equations online for encouragement. :)

I took the HESI down in Florida and bought the review guide for it. I'm pretty good in Math but it was a lot of conversions (mL-L and stuff like that). Other than that I had to do a reading, grammar, and anatomy section. I did really well, but missed the cut-off for Anatomy...i take it again the end of August. I'm just studying the Anatomy part so I can nail it. Other than that just take your time and do your best...it's really not that bad. Just finished up my last pre-req and I start the Accelerated BSN program in May...just not sure at which school yet. Good Luck!

@loulou: I've been using the suggested book to study. I feel like the way this book is written makes it more difficult. It throws you in to a test and then explains why the answer was that answer afterwards, there is no instruction prior to the sample tests. I don't understand how that's helpful? Ok...now guess the answer and when you get it wrong we'll tell you why. Silly! Good luck to you!

@Iridescent: Thanks, that's definitely a great way to look at it.

Math and I are NOT friends. I know how you feel! Good luck on your test.
