what's your study strategy

Published

Hi everyone:

I just started my A&P 1 class. THe instructor said if you can't pass this class we won't survive nursing school. I am looking for ways to absorb all of the class info. For other classes, reading and reading just doesn't work for me. I have a problem getting high scores. I am a visual person but not all of the text has pictures (especially the begining of the textbook). If you don't mind, please share what works for you. I want an A do despartely. Thanks so much.

Use the anatomy coloring book and make your own note cards/flash cards to study with.

As for memorizing parts of the body - especially bones and muscles - photocopy a picture (which you can easily get online) of whatever you're studying at the moment and draw lines coming off each part. Then use that as a study guide. That really helped me.

As for learning processes/functions of organs, knowing the vocabulary specific for each organ is obviously helpful. Since you're a visual person, I suggest looking at various pictures before the lecture starts.

If you really want to absorb all of the info, record the lecture. If you're too busy writing everything down, that takes away from actually understanding what the professor is saying.

Some textbooks have websites with labeling quizzes and flashcards that can help you remember. I know my A&P text did.

Your instructor is correct. I think if you can't get at least a B in anatomy, it would be difficult to pass nursing school.

Currently taking an accelerated A&P class right now 5weeks! took a&p at another univ but it didnt transfer my school just doesnt transfer any a&p and i got a A so that sucks, but anyway what i do for the body parts if photo copy page of the book and draw lines and try to see which ones i know without lookin in the book, then check what i get wrong. and then focus on that. Also my book has great website with quizes online you can use its www.mhhe.com/shier11e you dont have to register and they have games matching stuff, crossword puzzles really helpful stuf if you go under self study area i thnk, :lol2:

I took A&P 1 last year and I found it was pretty hard to because of all the memorization. My best advise would be to do what the others say and print out pictures and practice labeling them. (that is great for heart, muscles, and bones) I would also always re type all of my notes and things I high lighted in my book. Usually when you re type or re write sometime you are taking it in with out fully realizing it. I hope this helps.

For me it's Flashcards, Flashcards, flashcards. I originally bought some from the bookstore, but they proved pretty much useless.

However the ones I made myself were very useful (I think I get almost as much out of making them as I do studying from them). Where I needed to, I downloaded pics from the internet and labeled them on the other side. Mostly though, I just made questions from my notes and answered them on the other side. The other thing I do is use those cards with rings through them...I put a set in my pocket and flip through them whenever I have a few minutes (in line at the post office, whatever).

Best of luck and come here to vent if you need to unload a bit of stress :D

Peace,

Cathie

Thank you to everyone who posted info to help me. I really appreciate it:lol2: I will use them!! Have a great day.
