Hello everybody:I am a foreign nurse graduate, I want to take the NCLEX and don;t know where to start or from where to study. I have the kaplan book but the more I read the worse I get. Also how long should I study for the exam? Any advise is welcome.
OK so the NCLEX-RN is a lot different than what you took in your country. that's a given.
So first, I would highly suggest in investing in an NCLEX-RN review course. A good one that I woud recommend is: Hurst Live Review, Helen feuer Live review.
These are live lectures that review content. as well as review the latest type of questions, and common topics tested for the current NCLEX-RN exam.
second, I would highly recommend that you buy the kaplan question bank, so you practice the NCLEX-RN type questions. To me, these were the most challenging than what any other book offered.
Third, I would recommend studying for at least 3 months straight. That is what I did; and if I could go back in time- I would do it the same all over again.
I did everything, listen to the helen feuer lecture on CD, did all the kaplan questions twice or untill I got everyone of them right, reviewed my content with the kaplan videos (I purchased the complete course).
If you can't do the things that I recommend above.
Then I would definitely tell you to go to kaplan- and use up the 4 months that come with the complete course for international nurses.
Kaplan complete comes with Live Lecture Videos of nursing content; comes with practice questions, and you can always go to any of the many centers that are accross the USA.
In no way shape or form am I advertising for any of the companies listed above.
It is just what I did to study for my nclex-rn exam back towards the end of last year.
I did this- some people do not like kaplan - but I did. I did everything that they told me plus some, and I passed first time.
I hope this helps you as it helped me!
there's a sticky above about Suzanne's plan..All necessary informations are there.from what i've learned here, all you have to do is to get yourself a copy of the latest version of Saunders, read each chapter and answer the chapter tests..As to the second step, that I do not know since we are not allowed to discuss it here..Goodluck to you..I'm also a foreign trained nurse..Don't let this whole "foreign thing" get into you..You can pass-just study and pray hard..:)

Sorry, but you are giving out incorrect information about my first tip. There is no place posted that states anything about reading the chapter, nor reading the book.

Oh sorry i got it wrong..I'm just saying what I have read from the posts from the people who used your plan. They were saying about reading saunders and answering the chapter tests and get 75% up.So I assumed that's the first step which is also the "first tip"... Sorry i got this "first tip" and "preparation for the plan" mixed up.
