a few of my classmates and i have decided to form a study group, we are looking for suggestions on making this group successful. we are looking for any tips that can help our group!
we were thinking about each taking a subject and learning it in depth, and then during our study group each member would teach that material to the group. has anyone used this strategy and if so was it successful? any suggestions would be appreciated. :nuke:

We would go over the notes and each person would add any random facts (you know how they love random facts on nursing exams...ugh) they knew about the topic. I was known for remembering bits from the reading that usually showed up on exams! I guess I think like a test writer.
Anyway, stay on topic, keep gossip to a minimum, and make sure you have some brain food to munch on!

There are lots of ways to approach a study group. Sometimes we make up questions that we think could be on the test. Also, we do the questions at the end of the chapters, we make up study guides and share them. Basically, whatever seems to work for you guys in getting the material in your head and being able to answer any question about that subject.

this is the way my study group in nursing school worked. my friend who was in medical school had a study group that worked exactly the same way.
it doesn't mean you can't study any of the material yourself, it just means that you have an obligation to your group to become the "expert" on that particular subject. you really get good at using the library and finding outside references because you pretty much are doing an informal research paper for each subject you are responsible for.
were we successful? you bet. we all pulled "a's" and passed our state board exams the first time around. we were asking questions of the instructors in class that were raising eyebrows and blowing people away. we were the "teacher's pets".
make sure you have a regular meeting time each week and if someone isn't doing their part, get them out of the group or replace them.
