Study Dilemma

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I need some advice. I'm currently in the Pre-Nursing Program at my school and am having trouble focusing when I study at home. I always get side-tracked with other things. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do so I can get some studying done!!!? Thanks in advance!!! :heartbeat

Early in the mornig sometimes work for me. Or find yourself to the nearest library.

Do you have an area in your home that you can use exclusively for studying? I find it difficult to study in areas I use for something else; like couch, kitchen table, bedroom. At this point in life I have an office that is strictly work and study. But back when I had roommates, I'd set up a corner of the apartment just for studying.

I agree with the setting up a "study spot". I have two little ones running around so if I need to study when they are awake I go into the office and they know that mommy is working on school stuff and to go to daddy if they need something at that point. I also try and study later at night when the house is calm and quiet. Hope this helps a little.

studying @ nite when the house has quieted down is best for me. i turn everything off and close my room door. so its just me and the books lol .. i dont know if youre a night owl but i study best after abt 11p =)

Can you go somewhere else to study?? I have the same problem I have to many distractions at home, TV, Internet, 4 kids. So I use all my in between time at school while I wait between classes and I get there early every morning to have a little time before as well.

thats cool if it works for you. but for me, i cant study in open places becaz its hard for me to concentrate. i just cant seem to block out noise... unless i get some ear plugs or something. im just that kind of person that has to look up if someone walks past lol

Yep it works for me, there aren't many people there in the early morning and I do just fine with the minimal traffic where I don't have the option to turn on the TV or go online. I used to be a night person, used to stay awake until 2-3 in the morning.

But I just started nursing school and having to wake up at 6 am daily and pretty soon when clinicals start early then that on those days there are no more late nights for me. Sleep is way to important when you are in nursing school that I make sure I am in bed by 10 at the latest so I am getting adequate sleep.

Library, medical libraries, starbucks + ipod is great. Parks or the beach is great. Designate a room to study. I knew someone who studied in the bathroom because it was the quietest place in the house. :)

I use a digital recorder and record my notes to listen to while driving, doing dishes, laundry etc. I don't have much time to devote to sitting and just studying so this allows me to multi task.

HTH (hope this helps)

I don't know your situation, but I have a husband and two kids and I do not work - just go to school. What I did was, when I registered for my classes, I made it so that I had a built in study/lunch break between classes. So 3 days a week I have a 2 hour break between classes which I use that time in the lounge to study and eat lunch. I actually get alot done!! Other suggestions....go to the library, either at school or your public library. Or if you have to study at home, just go into a quiet room and lock the door if you have to. If all else fails...how about studying in the car or at the park? Bottom line....it is your responsibility to make time to study. If you're having trouble finding the time, something needs to give.
