student visa in canada

hi everyone! =) i am a RN here in the philippines. just recently checked cic page regarding student visas. im wondering if taking LPN course for 1yr in canada is a great idea. is it true that you can get a temporary work permit as LPN? can this one leads to PR later on?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Why would you want to do a LPN course when already a RN?

Looking at CIC you can stay and work on a PGWPP once graduated and it is issued for the same amount of time that the course was to a maximum of 3 years. If course is 8 months long then PGWPP is issued for 8 months however to qualify for PR your job must be on the NOC list and a minimum of 12 months full time employment or equivalent. You may find it hard finding a employer willing to go this route as a lot will depend on the province you are looking at. I don't see many full time LPN jobs advertised in my province although there will be some around but I think most are part time

thnx for the reply @silverdragon! yes you were right about taking the LPN course. however alot of agencies now adays offer this kind of program for filipino nurses. do you have any idea if canada offers a bridging program like that of australia? i know that nursing is not on the list of noc. but i was hoping to get a sponsorship/ working visa perhaps if not under the FSW visa. is this possible? btw are u in canada and working as a nurse now? =) btw i really appreciate your prompt response in most of the threads here. thank you so much. ive learned alot.

The PN course is two years.

The bridge isn't like the Australian one.
