What are my chances for CRNA school

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hello,

I have been looking into all the different Masters programs offered in nursing and I would really love to Masters in Anesthesia. I graduated with a Bachelors in Biological Sciences with a 2.0 GPA. (poor GPA due to many health issues in the family) I am working to get my diploma in nursing and have a 3.75 GPA and I have another 2 semesters to go. Do you think I should retake classes from my Biological Sciences major to raise that G.P.A. or should I non-matriculate in a graduate school and take 1 or 2 classes to prove I am capable of graduate level courses. Has anyone non-matriculated in a graduate school before and will my low GPA stand in my way? Also, is it common for a new graduate with a diploma in nursing and a bachelors in biology to gain a position in ICU?

I have to say this site is great and I think its awesome that other nurses/ pre-nurses are there to help another one out.

Don't waste your time with retaking undergrad classes. Take some grad level science courses. That's is what I am doing. My GPA in my BSN was 2.49. YUK!! Totally my fault. Was young and didn't care and skipped a lot of class. I have taken grad level Adv. Cardiovascular Physiology, neurobiology and stats. I have a 4.0 w/ all my grad level classes. I'm also going to take my CCRN and an Adv. Pathophysiology class this summer. Taking grade level classes will let the schools know that you can handle the grad level work. FYI: the grad level Adv. Patho class I am taking is through UMASS-Boston, and it is completely on-line. Summers class is full, but something to think about if you like online classes. Good luck. Hope this info. helps.

jls189,

Did you end up applying? How did this work out for you?

Im looking to take the online Patho course at UMASS this summer! How did you find it? Any information would be so helpful. Thanks in advance
