Anesthesiology Assistant

While I'm sure that I'll get some bias view points on this board, but I recently came across the anesthesiology assistant program. I had not heard of this type of program before. It appears to be limited, at least at this point in time, to the southern US. However, I suspect that it will eventually become more accepted in other areas too.

Does anyone have any insight on this type of program? The pros and cons? Thanks!

Why would you limit your opportunities and play the ***** of an MDA all day long? I doubt it'll ever be widely accepted. They've been around for decades and continue to lag in jobs and expansion... theres a reason for that.

If you want to skip the nursing aspect, a better route would be some form of PA. At least with that you get some autonomy and respect.

Be a CRNA. Work in a an all CRNA facility. Be your own boss. Call your own shots.

From what I have seen the entry requirements are identical to PA pre-requisites. However, if you were already a nurse I would think CRNA would be a better route. Do you want to be limited to the few states that recognize AAs?
