Student prescribed xanax for anxiety...

Published

Hello all,

I was recently prescribed Xanax for anxiety and my ADN's policy is to report all new Rx's to the heads of the program. I notified them last week, which was the same week I was prescribed, and they set up a meeting for me to come in on the 28th. If anyone else has been through a similar experience, could you please share your story.

I'm a little nervous because they placed so much emphasis on notifying them during the orientation process, and I would like to know what to expect. Any advice is welcomed.

We had to pass a drug test and it was said that when we went if we were on anything that would set the test off to bring the Rx for the labs knowledge, they only told the school if we passed or not.

From the information I've found, that's the only legal way it's done. Sounds to me as if the schools mentioned in this thread are breaking the law, but no one has ever challenged them. Unless you bring the big guns during a legal challenge such as this, they might make life miserable for you.

Okay, so the meeting went a little something like this. Basically, It's against our districts policy to take certain prescription drugs (even with a prescription of course), and if I'm at a clinical one day and that clinical site decides to drug test me for some reason and the test comes back positive, I will be terminated from the program. This was all verbal and I wasn't provided with the official district handbook

That makes no sense to met at all.. Aren't they putting your health in jeapordy if you are not permitted to take your prescriptions during all clinicals? That is just crazy to me... I hope you get it sorted out.

I too must report all medications. There was a paper in my acceptance package and I had to list all medications I take regularly, prescribed or otherwise, along with the dosage amount and use amount. i.e. Zoloft 50mg qd
