Student nursing classes on medical absence?

Published

Hi all,

I'm a nursing student and wanted to know if any of you have had experience with taking a semester off on medical absence. Has any of your schools let you take half your classes for one semester? or do you have to put the whole semester on hold? For me, I don't think I can physically handle the clinical portion of it because of a baaad infection. But I can still get decent grades in class. I've already missed two weeks of school and got excused for it, but may need another week.

Specifically, if any of you are in the CSU system such as sfsu or east bay, let me know your experiences. But any input would be great.

Talk to them about your situation but be very careful about asking for accommodations.

It depends so talk to an instructor. Remember there's a lot of behind the scenes prep that goes into a clinical- computer training, security clearance, accommodation of the instructor and students on the floor. In my program there were make up clinicals offered at the end of the semester in case there was bad weather or sick days, but clinicals usually correlate with the class so I don't think it would be good to do one without the other. I'm sorry to hear about you circumstances, good luck.

Not in my area. A girl in my school has just been diagnosed with breast cancer and as far as I can tell, no accomodations are going to be made for her...
